I am a certified Special Education Teacher with an endorsement in Learning Behaviors. Work Experience
1:1 Teaching Assistant
Thomas Paine Elementary School - Urbana, IL
August 2021 to July 2022
This year I worked as a Special Education TA in the resource program. I also worked 1:1 with a non-verbal student in a kindergarten classroom. He had an IEP, but they hadn’t formally diagnosed his disability. They think he was on the spectrum or a student with autism, but his doctors were still evaluating him. This student also received 1:1 medical support from a nurse. He needed a large amount of support to understand instructions and complete modified lessons in the kindergarten classroom. He also received Speech and Occupational Therapy as well. I helped/supported him during his entire school day. Special Education Teacher
Leal Elementary School - Urbana, IL
August 2011 to May 2020
I worked full time as a special education resource teacher with 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. I supported them in their least restrictive environment. This meant I pushed into the general education classrooms for students who were able to follow these lessons with assistance. Other students who needed more support got pulled into my resource room where they received modified lessons to reach the goals on their IEPs. I was also the case manager for all the students on my caseload. Special Education Teacher
Champaign Unit 4 School District - Champaign, IL
August 2010 to May 2011
I worked half-time as a cross categorical teacher with third and fourth grade students at Kenwood Elementary School. I supported my students by providing push-in support in the general education classroom and pull-out support in my resource room. I collaborated with the students’ general education teachers and the Special Education Team to make sure the students were working on the correct grade level material with appropriate modifications and accommodations. I also was also the case manager for all the students on my caseload.
Special Education Teacher
Chicago Public Schools - District #299
January 2008 to June 2010
I worked as a primary special education teacher. I spent my time providing specialized services to students in kindergarten through fourth grade. The students received my support in the general education rooms in addition to my resource classroom. I modified the teachers’ lesson plans to make sure the students were working on material at the appropriate level. I also created my own lessons to support my students in specific areas where they needed additional assistance. I also wrote the students’ Individual Education Programs (IEPs) to ensure the students’ needs were identified and supported. Bank teller
Twin City Financial (TCF) - Chicago, IL
