Responsible for decontamination, preparation,

sterilization, endoscope reprocessing, and case cart

Preparation. Remove contaminated case carts from

operating rooms as well as other clinics. Decontaminating

and inspecting the instruments prior to sterilization by

hand washing or by use of the washer sanitizer. Examining

items for defects, damage, and cleanliness. Processing

contaminated rigid and flexible endoscopes. Identifying

the correct method of sterilization for each instrument or

piece of equipment. Loading autoclave carts and inserts

sets into sterilizer. Using an electronic tracking system,

assembles a vast majority of complex instruments, sets,

and trays. Assembles case carts for procedures. Inspecting

items for expiration dates and package integrity when

assembling case carts. Annotating the instrument list to

demonstrate items contained in case carts. Ensuring that

par levels of instruments and equipment are maintained

at all times. Ensuring sterilizers function appropriately

and performing the necessary tests to guarantee sterility.
