PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY

I am a native Egyptian and a registered nurse who has been living in US for over 40 years. I am also an American citizen. I speak, read and write both Arabic and English fluently. I can communicate with Arabic speaking individuals who use different dialects. I serve as a medical interpreter for clients in hospitals, doctors’ offices, clinics and in legal matters. I am familiar with the cultural health beliefs of Arabic speaking clients which is a very important aspect of wholistic health care. I provide cultural input to parties who do not speak the Arabic language. I follow the ethical code to protect client confidentiality.

I am a compassionate Arabic interpreter offering superior language interpretation to bridge communication gaps for better understanding and productivity. I employ empathic and mindful approach to avoid potential conflicts caused by lack of cultural knowledge. I possess Arabic medical interpretation experience with over 40 years. In addition, I have excellent reputation with great customer satisfaction.

PROFESSIONAL HISTORY

I began my interpreting career in the early 90s. My first clients had arrived from Saudi Arabia to have liver transplant surgery performed by pioneer liver transplant surgeon, Dr Thomas Starzl, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, Pa. During my tenure as a faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Nursing, I was frequently called either to meet in person or by phone to interpret to clients and to facilitate communication between the medical team and the Saudi (Arabic) speaking clients. Speaking the Arabic language, understanding the cultural and health care beliefs and knowing the medical terminology in Arabic assists in maximizing the quality of care and eliminates any misunderstanding or miscommunication errors.

In late 1990 I was hired by USAID to interpret for a group of Egyptian medical doctors who arrived to

John Hopkins medical center in Baltimore Maryland for training. My interest in Arabic interpreting continued in Florida. In 2017 I Joined European Interpreting services, located in Jacksonville, Florida. I had several long-term cases, some in court and lasted 3-4 years. Currently I am working for RH Language Solutions in Florida.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:

PhD in International Development and Education, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pa.

MSN in Nursing, University of Pittsburgh, School of Nursing. Pittsburgh, Pa.
