March 2023 - Present

• Team fEMR is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has an open-source electronic medical records system designed for clinicians working in environments without access to the Internet or electricity. The fEMR system has been deployed worldwide since 2014 to post-disaster environments and other very low resource areas to build capacity and improve continuity of care. I was part of a team of coders that assigned ICD-10-CM and CPT codes to the medical records from a refugee camp on the US-Mexico border. Many of the medical records were in Spanish and needed to be translated before being coded. Team fEMR and their partners used the coded data for research on the prevalence of Covid-19 and other conditions and will continue to be used for broader analyses. I have coded over 1,200 encounters for Team fEMR so far since February. Even though we here code for mostly outpatient, we also have the expertise to code for inpatient as well.
