Major technical strengths include the areas of process optimization and improvement, process simulation, process design, and project work. Interpersonal strengths include actively and successfully working in a team environment (operators, plant personnel, managers, etc.), maintaining a constant focus on safety, and demonstrating effective oral and written communications. Working environments have included both manufacturing and consulting.

PROFESSIONAL

EXPERIENCE

Senior Process Engineer, 2013-Present

Vanguard Natural Resources (Formerly Exxon), Oil and Gas Processing

Atmore, Alabama

Designed a process that was not capital intensive which greatly improved the quality of one of the most profitable product; The increase in net profits was approximately $3,000,000/yr

Used modeling software for optimizing plant efficiencies and utilization therefore lowering the operational costs by greater than $1,000,000/yr

Performed process simulations and design calculations for a new amine stripper tower and trays for an extremely sour gas service

Performed hydraulic calculations for new process designs, existing plant processes, and for troubleshooting plant capacity related issues

Generated AFEs (approval for expenditure) for new projects that included both short and long term process improvements

Managed small and medium sized capital projects

Actively participated in the FEED and scoping of new projects

Developed critical guidelines for optimum operations of the gas plant distillation section and the sour gas amine treaters

Updated plant process procedures that allowed for a safer operation

Performed relief valve calculations and associated piping hydraulic calculations in accordance to API 520/521 standards

Updated P&IDs as necessary for all new and existing processes

Actively participated in all PSM activities which included the MOC (management of change) system, PHA participation, and relief valve/system revalidation and new designs

Help established a basic historian for process data

Heavily involved in day-to-day plant optimization and troubleshooting routines

Developed and managed a rigorous lab routine, personnel, and an effective schedule that consisted of collecting pertinent data for plant optimization and troubleshooting

Improved the process controls in the critical sulfur plant operation by installing properly sized control valves

Principal Process Engineer, 2012- 2013

Evonik (contract engineer via Sirius Technical)

Theodore, Alabama

Developed and completed a study in energy optimization which improved the energy utilization for a major pharmaceutical plant; potential energy savings were between $500,000 to $1,000,000 per year as a result of this work

Supported process safety studies (i.e. LOPA and PHA) and engaged in developing solutions to the recommendations

Performed relief valve, rupture disc sizing, and associated piping hydraulics for various chemical processing units

Used process simulation to aid in process design and relief valve sizing

Process Engineer, 2007- 2012

Chevron Phillips

Pascagoula, Mississippi

Supported the para-xylene process which involved a variety of unit operations such as adsorbtion and freeze crystallization

Day-to-day functions included troubleshooting, optimization, and long-term unit reliability both from a production and a process design perspective

Typical process design work initiated by PHA/LOPA type processes (i.e., relief devices and vent piping), unit revamps (pumps, exchangers, etc.), and long-term optimization projects utilizing simulation (Aspen plus and Pro II)

Interacted with commercial business unit to insure short term and long term success in process unit reliability and throughput

Actively engaged with refinery personnel to develop solutions to everyday issues common between the chemical unit and refinery

Process Engineer, 2006 - 2007

URS Corporation

Mobile, Alabama

Provided process engineering support to various processes that included gas, refinery, specialty chemicals, and pulp and paper

Performed detailed energy studies for various processes that resulted in both project justifications and energy savings

Sized relief valves for liquid and vapor services in complicated piping networks

Designed heat exchangers for organic and inorganic processes

Developed flow models with detailed mass and energy balances for different processes

Actively participated in front-end project work

Process Optimization Engineer, 2005 - 2006

Texas Petrochemicals

Houston, Texas

Provided studies for distillation optimization that resulted in savings about $300,000

Developed, scoped, and initiated energy saving projects that decreased natural gas usage

Optimized unit operations for daily “best practices” by the use of computer simulation in combination with day-to-day plant data

Maintained an active role in the mechanical integrity of equipment vital to the process via the “work order” system

Monitored daily energy usage and plant efficiencies via the use of self-developed spreadsheets in combination with PI; From this data, suggestions were recommended to produce a more efficient process

Played an integral role in executing projects from start to completion

Process/Project Engineer, 2004 - 2005

Degussa (contract engineer via ACO)

Mobile, Alabama

Successfully designed a distillation column for the separation of unfamiliar silicon compounds

Sized shell and tube heat exchangers for normal use and for reactor designs

Engaged in a design of a return condensate system that produced annual savings of about $500,000

Designed process equipment and modeled processes using Aspen software and self-developed spreadsheets

Used leading edge physical property prediction methods to accurately predict properties of unfamiliar chemicals for design purposes

Constructed P&ID’s for process designs

Developed cost analyses for projects (for justification purposes)

Managed small projects from the basic phase to the construction phase

Process Engineer, 2002 - 2004
