Human resources consulting services

Provided a variety of human resources services to a civil engineering company including but not limited to: amended the employee handbook, audited I-9s, researched federal and state regulatory compliance, implemented Affirmative Action Program, evaluated performance review process and documents, developed job descriptions, developed interview guidelines, reviewed personnel files and developed OSHA compliance recommendations.

Haverhill Chemicals LLC – Houston, TX 9/2011- 2/2015

A manufacturer of Phenol, Bisphenol A and Acetone in N. Am.; employing 175 to 210 employees/contractors ($850M in revenue).

Human Resources Director

Responsible for the overall human resources function and active member of leadership team. Supervised 4 professionals.

Established the human resources function for a newly formed manufacturing company with a plant location in southern Ohio and corporate headquarters in Houston, Texas.

Re-structured the engineering department into 3 (maintenance, processing & projects) which allowed 3 engineers to be promoted to supervisory roles prior to staffing the new departments.

Developed and implemented a strategic initiative to modify the plant culture to more entrepreneurial: hired a new site manager, created company-wide communications on values and vision, provided talking points on same to plant functional managers for their respective staff, implemented a nepotism policy, changed hourly hiring standards to require completion of Operator certification program and or craft apprenticeship, and implemented a recognition and reward program for employees showing initiative and creativity.

Selected a benefit broker, Lockton Group, and added another affiliated company to our 401K program with Fidelity.

Staffed the corporate office positions in sales, supply chain, customer service, accounting and office administration. Recruited the plant HR Manager and took responsibility for the safety and training function with 2 professionals.

Insourced the maintenance, warehouse and rail functions by hiring 36 hourly employees, 2 hourly leads and 2 exempt supervisors; outsourced the guard service and dockside personnel.

Established a wellness committee and obtained a $15K grant from the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation.

Implemented a Paid Time Off policy to replace a vacation and sick pay policy with as estimated savings of $250K.

Westlake Chemical – Houston, TX 7/2009 – 8/2011

A vertically integrated manufacturer and marketer of basic chemicals, vinyls, polymers and fabricated products; employing over 2100 employees ($3.6B in revenue).

Corporate Human Resources Manager

Responsible for the overall Corporate Human Resources function including managing all administrative services. Supervised 3 direct reports.

Hired a corporate recruiter and developed a strategy to staff SAP functional analysts for the IT Department.

Senior Human Resources Manager for Oilfield Technology Group (2005 – 2009)

Managed the HR function of the Oilfield Technology Group’s associates in 3 manufacturing sites, sales office, lab and R&D facility and 3 transloads across the USA and Canada.

Implemented the human resources function for this diverse and growing business unit.

Developed a career ladder of education and job rotation for research professionals to move into the commercial side of the business. This program saved an estimated $500K over 2 years.

Staffed a Canada startup plant in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta in a very tight labor market with high wage demands.

Increased the professional staffing levels from 35 to 65 including the recruiting of 2 very specialized scientists – Geophysicist and Nano Technology Research Scientist.

Facilitated quarterly business management team meetings resulting in a clear list of action items for members.

Corporate Human Resources Manager for Resolution Performance Products (2004 – 2005)

Managed global compensation and policies. Supervised 3 direct reports – payroll, HRIS and generalist.

Created a global compensation system for the newly acquired Resolution Specialty Materials (RSM) utilizing Hay and Mercer survey data. The new system standardized the compensation structure and process for administering compensation across 18 countries.

Conducted training sessions on HR procedures for the human resources associates in Europe. This facilitated them being equipped to help management with HR procedures and answer associates questions.

Human Resources Consultant for Resolution Performance Products (2004)

Participated in the due diligence of the Eastman Chemical acquisition to be named Resolution Specialty Materials.

Lead the development of the human resources function for the newly acquired Resolution Specialty Materials.
