ACADEMIC PREPARATION:

M.S. in Geology, University of Texas at San Antonio, San Antonio, Texas, May 2016, 3.48 GPA

Thesis: Preliminary Oxygen Isotope Analysis of A Mixed Conodont Assemblage From The Type Chappel Limestone (Tournaisian Stage, Mississippian Subsystem), San Saba County, Central Texas.

Thesis successfully defended April 27, 2016 with grade of A-. Thesis advisor: Dr. Lance Lambert.

Rock samples from the Chappel Limestone were obtained at the Type Chappel locality in San Saba, TX October of 2014. Conodonts were extracted from rocks by acid digestion using formic acid and the residue sieved through a 125μm sieve. Conodonts were picked with an artist (0000) brush using a microscope with a directed light source, and sorted by species into 60-well slides. Each species were then weighed, and converted into Ag3PO3 using the silver phosphate method. Approximately 200 - 300μg of Ag3PO3 crystals were transferred to 3.5 x 5 mm silver capsules and combusted using a Thermo TC/EA (High Temperature Conversion Elemental Analyzer) operated at ~1440 C where the phosphate oxygen is reduced quantitatively in a glassy carbon furnace, and the resulting CO is measured on line by a ThermoFinnigan DeltaPlus XP isotope ratio mass spectrometer. All analytical results were normalized to NIST standard NBS120c Florida phosphate rock, and isotopic compositions were quoted in the standard δ-notation relative to Vienna Standard Mean Ocean Water (V-SMOW).
