Robert N. Schnitzler, M.D. Cardiology San Antonio, Texas 1980-2001 Administrative and Medical Coordinator of prominent Cardiology practice, responsible for overseeing\assisting in various divisions of the office including the physicians and practice administrator. Supervised performance of team members interceded as necessary to resolve problems and delivered efficiency and personnel knowledge base. Maintained personal rapport and superior communication skills with employees, patients, and physicians. Duties as follows:

Scheduled all new patient visits. Obtained all pertinent information relative to demographics and medical history. One urgency was determined after appropriate screening the patient was scheduled with the appropriate provider to ensure the patient was being provided with optimum care in a timely manner.

Patient Vitalization included performing electrocardiograms prepping patients for routine and nuclear stress tests. Starting IV's and performance of stress test equipment while monitoring heart rate, blood pressure and EKG changes with CNS or physician present. Obtained complete medical information of all new patients and relayed patient history to physician (Dr. Schnitzler) prior to him accessing the patient. This was a vital role.

Responsible of all patient appointments to include scheduling in house treadmills, nuclear studies and echo cardiograms. Rescheduled patient appointments according to hospital emergencies (based on cathlab emergencies). Contacted patients to verbally remind and confirm upcoming scheduled appointments. Also utilized Televox- an automated telephone patient appointment confirmation system. The system required daily set up in order to perform the task of confirming patient appointments. Assisted with complete EMR conversion. On a daily basis I would abstract patients medical written information and convert into EMR file. Made certain all results, reports and entire medical history was converted accurately and expeditiously. Responsible for approval and appropriate documentation in EMR of all incoming fax prescriptions. Approximately 100 per day. To include prescription approval of verbal incoming call and fax prescriptions approximately one hundred fifty per day. Provided patients with surgical clearance letters, disability forms, FMLA forms etc. Inventoried and ordered all medical supplies. Maintained 02 tanks, defibrillators, automated blood pressure equipment and kept Emergency Crash Cart with up-to-date meds and all equipment required. Contacted pharmaceutical drug representatives and kept medicine cabinet well stocked in order to meet high demand of medication samples for patients.

Assisted physicians (Dr. Schnitzler and other physicians and CNS's) in patient rooms with prescriptions, future appointments, required testing, entered diagnosis and appropriate charges of in house testing, visits in EMR for each patient visit. Triage Screened all incoming calls and responded to patients in a timely manner upon appropriate discussion with physicians. All pertinent information was conveyed to the physicians in order to make precise medical decisions. Scheduled all cardiac procedures, caths, PTCA's, ICD, pacemaker implants, stents etc. This entailed hospital admissions, 23hour and routine hospital admissions. Made appropriate arrangements and faxed proper orders.

Business responsibilities included contacting patients with outstanding balances. Most were going to be sent to collections. Collected 10k in one month. Also worked with general accounts prior to delinquency diligently. Kept close communication with office administrator regarding accounts to collect optimum amount of monies whether new accounts or delinquent. Special Events Coordinator included invitation production, holiday gatherings and organization of the International Pacing Symposium Conferences for consecutive years and traveled to Hawaii for these conferences. Organized registration, hotel, airline ground travel for approximately 300 world wide attendees.

Administrative Duties performed all personal and professional matters for the physicians. Personal assistant to Dr. Robert Schnitzler and administrator. Interviewed new applicants for employment. Responsible for hiring and dismissing employees accordingly. Accountable for employee evaluations. Time was allotted for open group discussions regarding problematic areas within the overall office function. Resolutions and changes were be implemented as deemed necessary. Change for efficiency of medical services provided to the patients was always welcomed. Issues requiring personal employee attention were discussed without delay. (My motto was and is, if someone is doing something without their knowledge of knowing that they are doing or performing something that does not meet company standards and it is not brought to their attention how can they correct it). In addition I would never ask any employees to perform tasks that I myself was not willing to perform. We were all in it together. Dr. Schnitzler had suggested that I enroll in an R.N. program he would personally pay for. Hi plan was to have me assist him in the Cath lab and hospital rounds. (Unfortunately at the time I was busy raising a family). My administrator mentioned that I was more proficient in obtaining and relaying medical information regarding all patients than some of the registered nurses she had employed. Responsible for scheduling and overseeing the overall function of the department. Scheduled new patient and follow up appointments for the entire group of physicians, nurse practitioners and dietitian. Triaged all incoming calls accordingly. Printed operative and pathology reports from Methodist Hospital via Meditech. Prepare all medical information to include operative, pathology reports and scan information to another center for appropriate coding. Log all incoming pathology reports. Prepare medical files for physicians to sign operative and pathology reports. Answered incoming phone lines and routed accordingly. Extremely busy fast paced center.
