R&D Firmware/Software Engineer (Expert)

Technical Lead for firmware team that consists of 4 engineers.

Work on a range of EMI receiver products that are used for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) tests. The products have to be designed and developed in the manner that conforms to stringent EMC regulations (CISPR & MIL standard).

Develop new measurement algorithms/methodologies that enables advanced RF & microwave measurements.

Job Functions include the following:-

1.Lead firmware projects. Oversee the overall firmware product development lifecycle from conceptual, definition, investigation, development, qualification process through the project.

2.Create workload distribution planning for the entire firmware team in order to ensure all the project deliverables and milestones are well line-up and can be completed timely.

3.Monitor the team work progress from time to time such that all key milestones can be accomplished on time.

4.Taking role of key developer for projects which include leading the software design & architecture work. Mentoring the junior engineers on firmware development job.

Worked in a digital signal processing project that involves in eliminating RF interference in radio communication. Developed an efficient real time IQ imbalance estimation algorithm to enhance the Receiver Performance of two way radio devices.

R&D Firmware Engineer (Advanced)

Pioneer firmware/software engineer in Penang Component Test Division R&D department.

Served as an extended team of U.S. R&D firmware team in delivering R&D projects. Worked closely with my peers at Santa Rosa firmware team to enable successful delivering of all project deliverables. Travelled regularly to U.S. to discuss R&D project development plan with peers.

Job Functions include the following:-

1.Developed lower level hardware control firmware that orchestrates various hardware in Network Analyzer to perform data acquisitions/ measurements in instrument.

2.Actively involved in product requirement analysis, design, development and testing of software applications in electronic instruments in early R&D phase.

3.Served as mediator between the R&D hardware team in Penang and the R&D firmware team in U.S. on various firmware issues and attaining solutions to firmware issues.

4.Assisted/Supported manufacturing on resolving firmware related problems to enable on-time shipment and product quality improvement.

5.Being a solo firmware engineer in the division at Penang, I was responsible in sharing firmware information and providing firmware knowledge transfer to other R&D and manufacturing peers in Penang.

Achievements:-

Successfully delivered 3 R&D projects within a 2 years period which includes the first 4-in-1 RF handheld instrument in Agilent. The accomplished tasks are listed as below:-

1.Developed an USBTMC-USB488 class driver in the RF Handheld Instrument to allow communication and enable power measurement with Agilent USB Power Sensor. Developed a brand new Power Meter Application with various functionalities in one of the most integrated world-class RF handheld instrument. Received “Agilent Innospark Gold Award” for this work.

2.Developed and successfully delivered a 2-port handheld Network Analyzer for bidding in U.S. Military division within a short period.

3.Developed Vector Voltmeter application that caters for immediate request of U.S. Air Force base within 2 months. Received “Agilent Innospark Silver Award” for this work.

4.Developed the user-friendly Adjacent Channel Power Ratio (ACPR) measurements spectrum analyzer in the RF handheld analyzer.
