Albany Unified School District
2008 to Spring 2012
Project/Construction Manager for the School District
Albany, CA
Oversee construction and project management of a new aquatic facility and
green building modular classrooms. Recently completed construction of a new
sports field and sound fence(mitigation measure).
Oversaw the complete replacement of the gas distribution system at one
elementary school while the school was in session. I set up and oversaw our
electronic maintenance request and facilities request system(our sports
fields, gymnasiums and Multi-purpose rooms are available to the general
public). I worked with our IT Manager to install 21st century educational
technology in every classroom.
Major accomplishment was moving three facilities and the District Office
simultaneously during the summer of 2010 on an extremely tight budget.

UC Davis Med Center Surgery & Emergency Services Pavilion
Sacramento, CA
Project Manager of Mechanical/Piping/Plumbing Contractor (Lawson Mechanical-
85M) and Elevator Contractor (ThyssenKrupp-2M) at the 470,000 sf addition
(3-story plus basement) to the Medical Center. This will house all Surgery
(24 OR's) and the full Emergency Department (the Level 3 Trauma Center For
Northern California), plus Acute Burn Unit, new Dietary/Kitchen/Dining,
Pharmacy, Clinical Laboratory, Administration, Registration, Finance, On-
Call accommodations. Building is serviced from the Campus Central Plant.
Exterior is precast concrete and glass with aluminum wall panels.
University of California Library and Information Technology Center
Merced, CA
On site Project Manager of a Library Wing (four stories) and an Office Wing
(three stories) cast-in-place reinforced concrete structures. The two wings
are joined by a "Lantern," which is a glass and zinc panel-enclosed, four-
story concrete and steel structure. The scope of work includes
architectural, structural, waterproofing, roofing, exterior skin, elevator,
mechanical, electrical and communication systems.
Although the Project had incurred substantial delays prior to Mr. Murphy's
arrival, the Library was awarded 'Occupancy' in time for the official
opening of the School. In addition, the center received LEED Gold
certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
River Rock Casino Parking Structure
Geyserville, CA
Managed Project: construction of a Three-Pod (Six, Seven and Eight Stories)
Parking Structure at the North End of Sonoma County's Alexander Valley. The
Structure consists of prefabricated concrete encased steel with poured in
place floors, roof and seismic walls. The elevated floating bridges with
traffic bearing expansion joints, electronic security and traffic counting
system, elevated Green Screen to preserve the optimal view all contributed
to a challenging project.
Simultaneously, Mr. Murphy oversaw the Restroom Expansion Project which
tripled the capacities while maintaining 24/7 operations in the Casino.
Presidio Village Senior Housing Project
Pittsburg, CA
Project Management of a HUD(Housing & Urban Development) sponsored 104
Living Unit Residence. Work included 4 Towers(3 & 4 stories) with slab-on
grade foundation, metal framed, stucco exterior housing units, offices,
laundry, community areas, utilities, site improvements and landscaping. Of
interest is a sophisticated security and health monitoring system
consisting of a nurse-call, closed circuit TV and an electronic access key
card.
Walnut Creek Water Treatment Plant Improvements Project
Walnut Creek, CA
Mechanical Project Manager of a three year / 85 million dollar upgrade and
plant expansion of an operating facility. This was a Joint Venture between
Swinerton and Marelich Mechanical. Work included 13 new structures and
refurbishing the Operations Control Building, installation of up to 96"
diameter concrete pipe, two new tanks(4MG & 16MG), welded steel piping and
instrumentation, demolish existing facilities, sitework and landscaping.
Responsibilities included understanding operations, provide testing, start-
up and training to the Owner's employees of all new systems we installed.
Hamilton Landing Hangar Project
Novato, CA
Assistant Project Manager for the conversion of Air Force Base Hangars into
an office park. Work includes site preparation, structural and seismic
steel installation, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, sheet metal, glass, roofing
and interior finishing.
U.C. Berkeley Underground Utility Project
Berkeley, CA
Project Manager for the installation of new steam, condensate, domestic
water, fire protection water, sewer replacement, repair of (E)structures,
new manholes, electrical and communications conduit and associated work
performed on the UC Berkeley Campus. I coordinated new construction
operations with the campus maintenance/operations group. This project was
awarded the "Innovation in Safety Award" by the Associated General
Contractors and the "Utility Project of the Year" by the Western Council of
Construction Consumers.
Pacific Pipeline Emidio & Grapevine Pump Stations
Bakersfield, CA
Project Manager for the simultaneous construction of two pumping stations
for the 130 mile Bakersfield to Los Angeles Pipeline. Work included site
preparation, concrete foundations, equipment setting, pipe and structural
steel fabrication and erection, electrical, instrumentation, painting and
insulation. All pipe spools were fabricated offsite and delivered to the
jobsite after testing and inspection.
Farmland Ammonia Plant Expansion
Fort Dodge, Iowa
Project Manager for the construction of new facilities to increase capacity
while the existing Anhydrous Ammonia was still operational. Lines were
isolated to facilitate tie-ins yet no plant production was lost. Work
included construction of a new refrigeration unit, structural steel
erection, equipment installation, pipe racks, piping, insulation and
painting.
Shell Clean Fuels Mechanical Services
Martinez, CA
Project Manager for the 3-year, 400,000 manhour, project to support the
Clean Fuels Project. I was responsible to oversee daily maintenance
planning, staffing, prosecution of work and recordkeeping. Work included
performing direct hire civil, structural, piping, instrumentation and
Boiler Code work. Our responsibilities and services also included
detailing, quality assurance and control, safety, accounting, professional
engineering, schedule coordination with other contractors, sub-contractors
and multiple crafts.
Shell Marine Vapor Recovery
Martinez, CA
Project Manager for the construction of two self contained 135 ton
compressor modules in Antioch, CA. The units were erected at the Fulton
Shipyard and barged to the Shell Longwharf upon completion to minimize
disruption of oilship traffic. Work included piping, electrical, equipment
setting, millwright work, painting, insulation and extensive structural
steel erection.
