Senior Director – Engineering (2015 – Present)

Reported to the VP of Engineering. Engineering and quality leader for Belkin’s WeMo ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT) home automation products. Led electrical and mechanical engineering, quality assurance for software and hardware, test automation, program management and product development management. Led product development processes in both waterfall and agile scrum methodologies to ensure overall program objectives were met to deliver high quality, on-time and budget.

Delivered well-received products ranging from Belkin’s WeMo brand as well as enabling partner products from Jarden Crock-Pot and Mr. Coffee to Amazon’s Echo voice-enabled speaker and lighting products from Osram-Sylvania.

The key metric was driving improvements in the customer experience tracked through user reviews on Amazon and App stores (iOS and Android) which has made tremendous improvements and one of the best in the IoT space compared to WeMo competitors.

Senior Director – Quality and Program Management (2014 – 2015)

Reported to the CTO. Head of global quality and program management responsible for ensuring Belkin’s products delight customers from a quality perspective and are developed and launched on-time and on-budget. Led functional teams of product test engineers and program managers. Accountable for establishing and improving quality processes and systems throughout the product life cycle. Provided quality leadership and collaboration with cross-functional teams including driving continuous improvement in quality standards and product and supplier execution.

Led product development process for overall Belkin businesses and drove improvements in phase-gate approval process and key initiative to establish a central repository for PRD’s and schedules in support of ISO 9001 quality management system.

Exclusive Brands

Senior Director - Quality, Safety, Service and Corporate Responsibility (2011 – 2013)

Reported to the SVP, General Manager. Global leader responsible for quality assurance, product safety and compliance, post-sales service and support, and social and environmental responsibility for the company’s Exclusive Brands organization. Led end-to-end quality management of both products as well as service delivery through call centers and service operations. Management responsibility for 40 people located in China and the U.S.

Provided functional and steering committee leadership overseeing the social and environmental responsibility program designed to improve factory working conditions across 125-140 active suppliers.

Improved key customer quality metrics for Exclusive Brands products over comparable brands:

Exclusive Brands product return rates were 2.2% lower than comparable brands in fiscal 2013

Increased customer Bestbuy.com ratings for Exclusive Brands products from 3.75 to 3.91 in F13;

Sponsored and led program that gathered consumer insights and competitive analysis to identify product quality or usability issues. Implemented close loop corrective action process that improved product design, manufacturing, and call center support;

Reduced quality inspection and testing costs by $500,000 by implementing a risk-based quality system focused on product and supplier risk;

Reduced warranty expenses by $3.9 million in F13 by implementing new call center initiatives, driving lower pricing on spare parts with suppliers and delivering higher quality and reliable products.

Partnered with call center leadership to align on key strategies and methods that improved our CSAT, resolution and likelihood to recommend each by 10% from F12 to F13.

Spearheaded effort with test and engineering teams that reduced TV test cycle time 13 days - a 34% improvement – by optimizing test plans and leveraging 3rd party testing resources.

Reported to VP of Exclusive Brands. Led product engineering, testing and quality for Best Buy's Private Label business. Provided overall strategy and implementation of engineering, testing, regulatory compliance, technology planning and supplier and 3rd party management from a product technical and quality perspective. Led global QA teams to set product quality standards, conduct capability and final inspection audits, and manage supplier performance. Led a social and environmental responsibility team that set policy, programs. Held organizational responsibility of 50 people located in China, Taiwan and the U.S.

Reduced major defect rates at factories from >1% to 0.47% by implementing quality management system and tools leveraging blend of SPC, PFMEA, inspections and capability audits.

Provided steering committee oversight to improve factory working conditions. Cut most egregious critical violation rate in SER program from 8% to 3% and increased SER audit score from 77% to 82% by focusing efforts on supplier capability training through pre-audits prior to award of business.

Created quality dashboard to track key performance indicators for products and suppliers.

Staffed and created product safety and compliance competency within Exclusive Brands. Prepared initial product recall processes and managed execution of several Best Buy recalls through the CPSC.

Director, Engineering and Program Management (2001 – 2005)

Reported to VP of Strategic Development. Responsible for Engineering and Program Management for vpr Matrix Computer Desktop, Notebook and Monitor Products. Managed a staff of six and $10 million budget.

Staffed and led the engineering and product launch team for a new Best Buy startup business, delivering $200 million in revenue in its first year.

Reduced non-recurring engineering costs by 60% from budget by eliminating redundant component and system level testing and leveraging key industry partners’ evaluation capabilities.

Directed and controlled all aspects of engineering including industrial and mechanical design, chassis and hardware development and testing, hard drive image generation and release along with component and system level compatibility and stress testing.
