Regional Finance and controlling Advisor, Jun 2014 – May 2016

SOS Regional Branch office oversees the operations of six countries as we try to reach out to vulnerable children’s in the areas of family based care homes, family strengthening programs in the community, schools, medical centres, vocational centres and emergency response programs. These programs have an approximate Total annual budget of USD 20m, 1,900 staff and 18,200 beneficiaries. Donors comes from across various strata like public/government funds, individual and corporate giving

Contributed to the transition of the global wide organisation restructuring by successfully taking over the finance & Controlling leadership role at the Regional Branch office based in Banjul with a cluster finance team of six core and twenty extended co-workers

Review and Investigate external audit issues from annual audit report in the Countries national operations and build co-workers capacity to improve on the issues reported to avoid recurrence

Successfully lead the budget team of six core co-workers in 6 countries in the preparation of the 2016 budget of total value of about USD 20m for initial donor approval

Vigorously pursue actions and strategies to ensure that countries operation meet data quality requirements for the accounting and reporting for Donor Funds. This is achieved by regular data quality verifications checks, follows up on recommendations and redesigned of funds requisitions and applications reporting template

Effectively worked with co-workers at the national level for the completion of regular external audit that meets stringent donor requirements and international standards. This is done by coordinating accounts/documents preparation, liaise with external auditors, review and verify draft audit report for accuracy and completeness and further endorsement for final publishing

Conducted capacity building of a total of about 30 co-workers at the various countries after thorough skill gap analysis to identify areas that needs improvement and training. This is done so as to enable the team to meet the challenges of donor and regulatory requirement in the accounting and reporting activities

Successful designing of a complete set of reporting templates to meet the various public donors reporting requirement. This is done by understanding the expectations of donors from as per agreed framework and look at how this can be retrieved from our system database with 100% accuracy and completeness. This resulted with a an expressive satisfaction from the side of many donors and help to secure further funding agreements
