POSITION DESIRED

Welding Engineer, Corrosion Engineer, Materials Engineer, CWI (Certified Welding Inspector)

AREAS OF EXPERTISE

CWI #13112401, Corrosion Mitigation, Welding, Brazing, Failure Analysis, Heat Treat, Hardfacing, WPS and PQR’s, Metallographic and Mechanical Testing, Auditing, SEM Microscopy, Plasma Spray and HVOF

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Implemented the use of shot peening to induce a compressive layer in the surface of the drill bit to mitigate stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in steel bodied bits subject to a high chlorides environment

Created WPS and PQR for British Petroleum Spool Spacer using SMAW (stick), GMAW (Mig) and SAW per DNV-OS-E101, NACE MR 0175, API 6D, 6A, 16A, 16D, 16C, and ASME Section IX.

Advised personnel at Honeywell – Mora (Czech Republic), in laser hole drilling, brazing, and GTAW welding of combustors to increase service life. Achieved annual savings of $350,000.

Implemented a CRA weld inlay for the nozzle bore in a drill bit, using a nickel based, corrosion resistant weld filler wire, applied by GTAW. This allowed us to mitigate erosion corrosion around the nozzle bore.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Materials Engineer, Varel International, Houston TX, September 2011- February 2016

Implemented the use of induction heating equipment to minimize heating time and to better control temperature fluctuations while manual torch brazing. Cut production time by 1 hour per bit.

Developed PQR and WPS for hardfacing by PTA, (plasma arc welding), cut hardfacing time in half.

Performed failure analysis on parts subject to fatigue. Utilized SEM to identify crack initiation sites.

Used nickel based PTA coatings, and NACE MR0175 approved materials to mitigate erosion corrosion in high particle density drilling environment.

Metallurgist, WH Laboratories, Houston TX, 2011

Determined chemistry of metals using Optical Emission Spectroscopy. Used metallographic and microscopic techniques to evaluate microstructures for grain size, carbide networks, intermetallics, and weld metal discrepancies. Tested for hardness, corrosion propensity, ferrite count, and density.

Consulting Welding Engineer, Dyna Torque Inc., (Contract ended) Houston TX, 2010

Engineering duties include review of client welding specifications and API 1104, WPS and PQR parameter development for robotic TIG welding of pipe per API 5L X80.

Principal Materials Engineer, Orbital Sciences Corp, Chandler AZ, 2009

Created PQR and WPS documents for welded assemblies per requirements of AWS D1.1, AWS D17.1 Developed and taught a PowerPoint course in “Welder Certification

Senior Materials Engineer, Honeywell, Phoenix AZ 1998 -2009

Technical expert for special processes, including welded and brazed assemblies. Developed supplier capabilities for brazing with AMS4777, AMS4778, AMS4782 nickel based braze filler metals. Advised in welding by GTAW, RSEW, EBW, LBW, IW, etc.. Trained in ISO:9001

EDUCATION

Masters of Science, Materials Engineering, Arizona State. BS, Metallurgical Engineering, University of Utah
