TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) PLC Electrician

• Worked for Stryker Electric as an electrical subcontractor on the "Port of Miami Tunnel Project". This was an extremely high profile (world renowned project), fast paced setting with equally extreme responsibility.

• Installed, mounted and troubleshot electric motors up to 430 hp (the cutting wheel alone implemented 18-430 hp motors), cranes and hoists, transformers, power distribution centers, generators, VFD's, PLC's, panel boards, motor starters, 480 lighting, photo, proximity and pressure sensors, encoders.

• Rerouted temporary power for other contractors.

• Interpreted electrical schematics for repair, installation and maintenance of the entire TBM.

• Worked with voltages from 13,200 to 12v DC and was directly involved with the complete assembly and wiring of the Tunnel Boring Machine form start to finish. 13,200-volt main power supply from FLP stepped down to 480 at transformer banks and MDB's (Main Distribution Box). 480v Ac to 12v DC control voltage. Pulling and terminating cable from 3/750 MCM to 22 AWG. Terminating PLC system for control cabin and full machine assembly. (The TBM was 2 football fields in length)

• After assembly and de-bugging, I was one of two onboard maintenance electricians responsible for daily work orders and troubleshooting all electrical problems pertaining to the Tunnel Boring Machine as the Miami Tunnel was being bored. This machine utilized a Siemens S7 PLC with over 2,500 I/O. (Contract Job)

PIZO Operating Company • Blytheville, AR 01/2011 to 06/2011 Plant Electrician

• The operation consisted of making Pig Iron and Zinc Oxide (PIZO) from iron dust. Ambient temperature in some places I was required to work exceeded 200 degrees (the ovens run at 2850 degrees), requiring thermal PPE. Wearing a respirator was required in approximately 80% of the plant.

• Responded to breakdowns and troubleshot all electrical problems throughout the plant and outside equipment, including motors, motor controls, cranes, hoists, transformers, high amp inductors (they melt the iron). PLC's, VFD's, breakers, high voltage lighting, thermocouples, encoders, sensors and various switches (pressure, prox, limit, photo, etc.)

• Ran new conduit and pulled and terminated wire for various additions.

• Interpret schematics for installation and troubleshooting.

• Worked with voltages from 24 DC to 13,200 at the transformer bank. Helped mechanics when not on an electrical issue. My schedule was 12-hour swing shifts (5-12's and 3 off, then rotate shifts)

Maintenance Electrician/Mechanic

• I was a production maintenance electrician/mechanic. We made aluminum and glass shower doors.

• Responded promptly to all calls for machinery breakdowns (electrical and mechanical) throughout the plant during the course of my 12 hour shift to ensure that machine uptime was maximized; also performed other maintenance related tasks as assigned by the maintenance supervisor. Troubleshot overhead cranes and hoists, extrusion presses, aluminum billet ovens and age ovens, thermocouples, gas regulators and actuators, ultra violet flame detectors, heat sensors for aluminum billets. Hydraulic and pneumatic valves, proximity, limit and photo sensor switches, punch presses, saws, conveyors, transfer tables, walking tables, belts, chains, fans, electric motors, pumps, PLC's, VFD's and control systems.

• Built, wired and install new control panels, controllers, switches, timers and sensors, motor contactors, encoders and weld as needed in addition to daily work orders and other special projects. Interpret schematics for installation and troubleshooting. Kohler Co. manufactures shower doors.

• Main departments were aluminum extrusion, anodize and glass. I worked in all aspects of maintenance in all departments, throughout the entire plant electrical and mechanical. This was a contract position. (Seasonal Contract Job)

Roll Coater, Inc. • Armorel, AR 06/2008 to 10/2009 Maintenance Technician

• This was a continual run operation (5-24) in a rolling mill. Each 12-hour shift had 2 Maintenance Technicians: An electrician and a mechanic.

• Responded to calls to troubleshoot control and power circuits affecting the line running.

• Troubleshot all problems with the line while coils were running, startup through shutdown.

• Implemented new controls into existing circuitry, calibrating actuators for oven gas valves using a fluke 4-20, mounted solenoids and limit switches and ran control wiring for them.

• Add/Modify PLC's for new installations and upgrades (solenoids, limit switches etc.). A GE Fanuc PLC ran everything. The program was written by Crown. Troubleshot and replaced Barber/Coleman controllers, mini-peepers (UV flame detection), thermocouples and gas regulators in the incinerators and ovens. Further troubleshooting included hydraulics and electrical circuits for the decoil and recoil carts, overhead doors, 480v 1000w lighting and photo sensors, heating units and the Hastings unit (fresh air supply for the paint room).

• Installed new equipment, switchgear panels, new 480, 240 and 120 circuits from a service or bus way disconnect, additional lighting (120 and 480), transformers and services for new circuits, wiring circuits and controls for motors.

• Worked with voltages from 13,200 at transformer bank to 24 AC/DC. Further responsibilities were to troubleshoot the de-coiler, re-coiler, slitter (a separate line), and the freedom 8000 stretch wrapper when they were running.

• Troubleshot and replaced and maintained encoders, motors, controllers and starters, transformers, Siemens VFD's and DC drives, hoists, overhead cranes, DC tracks and remotes. (Whiting, and Shepard Niles)

• Frequently worked at heights of 40 to 150 feet and can operate all lifts and heavy machinery.

• Maintained belts, interpreted blueprints and schematics. Re-piped faulty air, gas and steam lines, changed out pumps, cleaned and programed video jets, inspected fire suppression systems, daily checks and blow off of boiler, ran conduit, pulled wire, terminated connections, welded and shop equipment fabrication.
