Automation and Controls Engineer July, 2012 – July, 2014

Responsible for handling erection and commissioning activities involving resource planning, team building and co- ordination with internal and external departments.

Performed inspection, testing and troubleshooting on power distribution feeders, switchgear and switchboards assemblies, lighting transformers, cables, switches, circuit breakers, protective relays, instrument transformers (current and voltage), metering devices, motors, motor starters, and motor control centers.

Developed programming and provided support for Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), SCADA systems and OPC servers to maximize both quality and production.

Diagnosed and resolved causes of electrical and mechanical malfunctions on all equipment.

Planned, directed and recorded periodic electrical analysis on the production equipment and recommended modifications or replacement of equipment which failed to meet operating standards.

Researched and developed engineering specifications for electrical control systems and equipment modifications and implemented cost effective upgrades to the equipment and facilities.

Reduced downtime and enhanced operation effectiveness by completing instrument calibration and preventive maintenance on Mag flow meters, pressure and flow control valves, Level Transmitters, LVDT’s, Flow Transducers, and Pressure Transmitters, RTD’s and thermocouples.

Updated the AutoCAD electrical drawings and schematics on all production and plant equipment and maintained master Page 2 of 2

backups for all machine programs.

Supervised graduate engineer trainees, diploma engineers and technicians in the checking & testing of panel control wiring, (PLC) interfacing in-between motor control panels & PLC panels, inputs outputs checking from motor control panels to PLC panels & vice versa.

Reduced breakdown time and maintained minimum spares by procuring material through SAP.

Trained Junior Engineers and Technicians for daily maintenance activities. Key accomplishments:

Commissioned and maintained a new Continuous Casting Plant with Level-2 automation spearheaded by Siemens-VAI, Austria.

Tested and Commissioned various slab marking machines and shroud manipulators required for the steel-slab making process, driven towards making the process more efficient and minimal time consuming.

Implemented various cost cutting measures by automating control of 110kw steam fans during downtimes. PROJECTS

HOBBY PROJECTS

USC Hyperloop Ongoing

Developed product specifications and requirements, block diagrams, schematics and component information using SKM Power tools and AutoCAD.

Design and development of digital and analog electronics for high power motor drive systems for compressors, service propulsion system and eddy current brakes.

Engineering and manufacturing documentation to complete the design on time for the competition ACADEMIC PROJECTS

PMU Data analysis using Wavelet Transforms April,2016 Tools used: MATLAB Wavelet toolbox.

Developed an algorithm to detect anomalies in the power grid. Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) data samples were analyzed using Wavelet Analysis over a period of time before a black-out and during normal operations. Unique pattern was identified to give out early warning alerts which can eventually prevent a black-out.

Nor-Ned HVDC project Nov. 2015

Tools Used: MATLAB, SKM Power tool, PSCAD.

Developed a detailed model to study the longest submarine cable used for HVDC transmission between Norway and Netherlands. Simulations were done to study the various failures that can occur in the submarine cable and how it affects the electrical grid. Detailed study was performed on the various technologies used and the economic analysis of the project was conducted

Canal Top Solar Project March,2015

Tools Used: MATLAB, SAM, PSCAD

Developed a detailed model of Canal top Solar PV project of 180MW on Coachella Canal, Riverside County to serve 100,000 customers after analyzing the solar pattern in the area. Developed a phase by phase and financial estimate for the project in addition to a 20 year Power Purchase Agreement and Environmental Impact Report to meet CEQA Regulations.

Electric Power system modeling Nov.2014

Tool Used: PowerWorld, Matlab

Identifying different real time problems associated with power transmission and distribution technologies and observe power systems behavior during various faults to provide a viable solution for problems using Power World Simulator and Matlab.
