As the founder of the company I am responsible for all aspects of managing the business, which includes drafting the business plan, budgeting, compliance, sourcing, production, marketing and shipping.

Conducted market analyzes with medical health professionals to determine the feasibility of the product.

Established a duty and VAT deferment program in the EMEA, Singapore and India that enabled the company to generate interest income on the deferred duty payments.

Revitalized export compliance operations for this manufacture of aerospace composite material. Responsible for establishing strategic plans, product classification, export licensing, internal auditing, and training.

Created the company's customs department that was able to generate reports for senior management.

Customs Manager

Managed and developed customs import/export operations for this name brand consumer retailer. Reported directly to the VP Global Trade Logistics while managing fourteen team members.

Prepared and submitted annual customs and transportation department budget to senior management team.

Managed the implementation of a direct on-line cargo status system with manufactures, buying agents, brokers, carriers, consolidators and the production department that allowed all departments to individually monitor shipments in transit globally.

Established procedures to obtained binding rulings from US Customs for products entering the United States that enabled business units to build in duty costs into their long-term business plan.

Gymboree Corp., Burlingame, CA. 1996-2000

Customs Manager

Established the Customs department at “Gymboree”. I recruited and hired over 10 individuals to work in the Customs/Logistics department that reported to me.

Performed a logistics market analysis of European ports of entry to begin directly into the European Economic Union from all production facilities worldwide. Contacted and negotiated with European customs the establishment of a Free Trade Zone operation in Shannon, Ireland that enabled me to create a duty deferment program that produced revenue over $600,000.00 in interest income in the first year of operation.

Administered the introduction of a US based in-house customs brokerage operation in Burlingame, CA. This project required cost analysis for equipment, staffing and messenger services. Annual savings for the company were over $250,000.00 in the first year of operation and also gave greater control of the customs entry process to the company.

Established a 3rd party importation/exportation distribution operation in Toronto, Canada.

The classifications determined by each customs agency were added to the production database to define the rate of import duty and if an import license was required at the time of entry.

Designed and advised the Accounting department on new international letter of credit requirements for templates to be used for products manufactured in one country but being exported to several.

Prepared and submitted annual department budget to senior management team.

Levi Strauss & Co., San Francisco, CA. 1990 - 1996

Import Coordinator

Designed and distributed a daily quota and product tracking report for the production divisions.

Conducted a feasibility study for an in-house customs brokerage program that would enable the company to import restricted tariff items from a remote location. This program required the approval from US Customs offices in Washington D.C., San Francisco and Los Angles in order to be in import compliance. This project was considered a “pilot test” for US Customs and importers and was later approved for nationwide usage.

Assisted in the implementation of a Mini-Land bridge program that utilized stack train container shipping to an in-land distribution facility. This operation produced greater visibility of individual products moving through the supply chain.

Monitored and advised production divisions the status of all individual shipments arriving in the US.
