Project Title : Modeling and Fabrication of Solar operated Grass Cutter.

Software used for Designing: Catia

Project Selection : As the demand for consumption of power increasing day by day, we expect to use more renewable energy resources in place of conventional energy

Sources as they are limited in nature. So, we use solar energy in our

Project to run the equipment solar operated grass cutter.

Project Purpose : Growing of grass, wild shrubs in open areas are very common. Especially

in places like schools, colleges, parks, gardens as well as in some houses. It causes a lot of problems for the people living there. To overcome this

problem, we modeled and fabricated a solar operated grass cutter.

Working Mechanism : In this equipment we use high speed carbide tip blades to cut the grass.

The fixed flat plate solar panel is kept on top of the frame. Whenever

Sunlight falls on the solar panel it converts light into electricity using

photovoltaic effect. This power is stored in battery and as input to motor.

By connecting the motor and the blades with suitable linkage desired motion

is achieved for cutting the grass.

Objectives Achieved :

I.Pollution free equipment was fabricated.

II.Power consumption using conventional energy sources are avoided.

III.Need of labor and their wages for grass cutting are eliminated.

IV.Developed very low cost equipment that can work with zero operating cost.

Challenges Faced : To empower a battery with a single solar panel and run a motor is

difficult task. We overcome this by choosing a wiper motor. We also face

many problems in mechanism and fabrication. It is very difficult for

placing blades at almost ground level. We struggle a lot for

fabrication. With my efforts a desired fabrication is done.

Participated and won prizes in English essay competition at school level.
