Responsibilities included chief institutional contact with the Georgia Legislature, the Governor’s Office and Federal Senators and Representatives; the evaluation of current donor and prospect base to determine the potential for major gifts; identification, cultivation and successful solicitation of six and seven figure major gift asks in support of the comprehensive campaign; develop new major donor prospects and de- velop plans and strategies for their cultivation; continued and expanded foundation and corporate funding while increasing each target pool; directed the legacy and planned giving program; organize and super- vise existing major events and develop new events to attract new constituencies; founder and organizer of the Brenau Barbecue Championship, a festival that drew 7,000 people to the campus. Responsibilities included the direction and supervision of a comprehensive development operation employing ten staff members, recruitment and training of a professional staff, coordination of a $32 million New Century/New Visions capital campaign that was floundering at $9 million upon arrival, planning and implementation of the university’s first planned giving program, development of a systematic approach to the cultivation and solicitation of major donor prospect, devising systems to coordinate a complete devel- opment process with academic deans and faculty, executive director of the MTSU Foundation, presenting a new trustee orientation program, implementing streamlined financial and budgetary reporting systems, foundation cultivation and solicitation.

ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT FOR DEVELOPMENT, TUSCULUM COLLEGE, GREENEVILLE, TN, 1989 TO 1998

Responsibilities included cultivation and solicitation of major donor prospects, both through outright giving and planned giving; identification, cultivation and recruitment of trustee candidates; associate director of the $20 million Tusculum 2000 Campaign and the $10 million Bicentennial capital campaign, four times the largest in Tusculum's history; liaison with trustees and trustee committees, the internal management of development office and supervision of the public relations and alumni offices, oversight of an ongoing development strategy which resulted in a 350% increase in alumni giving. Additionally, evaluated and se- lected a computer application system; initiated a computerized planned giving operation; coordinated the annual athletic scholarship campaign and phone-a-thon effort; and prepared and presented foundation proposals.
