JOB DESCRIPTION
INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (ICU)
Perform duties and tasks as per the Code of Conduct Agreement and Policy
Actively participates in all quality and performance improvement activities within the department/service and within the hospital as per the Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Program.
Actively participates in all of the education requirement and activities as per the hospital education program
Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care in accordance with established Policies and Guidelines; provides guidance, direction and coordination for assigned personnel in activities directed towards standards of patient care, safety and Infection Control.
Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates individual patient care.
Performs a variety of supportive and technical nursing skills and utilizes a range of equipment, supplies, medications, treatments, monitoring techniques and other diagnostic, therapeutic and supportive measures in carrying out medical orders
Initiates and perform a range of nursing measures based on patient needs related to physical and mental comfort, positioning and mobilization, nutrition and hydration, bowel and bladder elimination, care of skin and wounds, support of respiration, hygiene, communication and other physical and mental bodily functions as required.
Establishes therapeutic relationships with patients/families and elicit their participation in care.
Assumes responsibility for quality of care delivered to patients
Assesses patients’ needs and condition
Collaborates with other health care team members in planning and providing safe and comprehensive care.
Performs procedures accurately, completely and safely according to hospital policy
Takes charge of the unit in the absence of the person responsible as required or requested
Undertakes the role of the primary care provider specific to defined patient group
Participates in the on- going training and development program of the department/unit
Ensures patient confidentiality is maintained and patient rights are upheld.
Plans and provides patient and family education, relative to their understanding of the illness and treatment. Collaborates with other healthcare team members to develop the education plan.
Recognizes emergency situations and takes appropriate action, providing clinical guidance, direction and coordination of activities for auxiliary staff
Recognizes and follows infection control practices
Participates in environmental safety awareness- CPR, Disaster, Fire and Infection Control.
Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement and Patient Safety ( CQI and PS ) activities.
Takes responsibility for ensuring safe lifting techniques
Reports and significant change in patients’ condition to appropriate senior nurse and/or responsible Physician.

EMERGENCY ROOM (ER)
Receives and endorse patients; does triage/classification of patients according to condition
Takes vital signs, perform IPPA, observes patient’s condition and report findings to physician on duty; position patient promptly and accordingly.
Identifies nursing needs of patients; plans appropriate nursing interventions; attends to emergencies; assists in diagnostic examinations such as laboratory, X-ray, UTZ and CT scan; carries out “stat” medications and treatment
Observes patients condition before, during and after any diagnostic and therapeutic procedure
Evaluates patients reaction to medical management; refers patients accordingly based on nursing assessment and evaluation; documents pertinent observation, treatment, medications, special procedures and nursing care rendered
Disseminates health information and education to patient and watcher
Acts as senior nurse when so delegated
MEDICAL – SURGICAL WARD
Gives direct nursing care
Makes vital signs and record, monitor intake and output accurately
Assist patients in moving, maintaining proper alignment of patient’s body and utilizing good mechanics
Do wound dressing, blood transfusion and fluid infusion
