Controller/Accounting Manager

Every job I’ve held since college, has required accounting skills. As a Business Broker, my current position, I require three years of tax returns, financials, balance sheet, list of assets, Quick Books backup and their lease. The fact that I can read and make something of these documents, will tell you that I can step into your business today and make quick work of your books. I can lead a staff or work under good leadership. I take care of, and train my staff, so my knowledge and treatment will inspire their enthusiasm in their work.

Career History

Downing-Frye Realty, Inc. Naples, FL January 2013 – Present

Business Broker, Commercial Realtor,

I work mostly with business owners. I help them sell or buy businesses. I also find them properties to buy and lease. I help them sell and lease out their properties. Most of my work involves working with financial data & tax returns. It is used to evaluate for purchase or establish a value to sell. I like this job and could do it until retirement, but my daughter adopted a baby boy in Atlanta, and my wife and I want to live near her to be part of their lives.

Coldwell Banker Commercial, NRT. Naples, FL July 2005 – December 2012

I work mostly with business owners. I sell their businesses or help them buy one. I also find them properties to buy and lease. I help them sell and lease out their properties. Most of my work involves working with financial data and tax returns, to evaluate for purchase or establish a value to sell. I became a CCIM while working here. Only six percent of Commercial Realtors have the designation. I left CBC because I no longer needed the CBC name for clients.

Archonix Systems, LLC. Marlton, New Jersey July 2002 – December 2004.

Regional Manager & Client Relations

My job was to install and train police departments. Archonix hired programmers from India to improve the software and write data conversions from the other vendor’s programs. I would travel to a site, install on their networks, and then train the entire staff and make sure the data from their old system was converted correctly. Each site visit would be from two to four weeks. I burned out after a few years.

SCI Financial Group, Inc. Cedar Rapids, IA January 1980 – February 1986

Controller, FINOP, & IS Manager

I managed the accounting staff, 20, for this multiple subsidiary company. I moved each subsidiary to an in-house integrated computer system. I found a way to eliminate $12,000 per month, we were paying to ADP for our money management client data and transactions. The board was very happy with me. With this new expertise, I convinced the Board that I could market these new accounting applications, and a new subsidiary was established with me at the head. The IBM PC forced us to find clients who still needed large databases with multiple devices on a mini-computer. Once we started selling to Police Departments, the Board offered the company to me, so I bought it.

McGladrey & Pullen, CPA’s LLC Cedar Rapids, IA October 1977 - December 1979

Auditor, In-Charge

I was hired by this firm for the Audit staff, because of my expertise in state bank exams, municipal government, and general businesses expertise. I did many closings and year end reports. I was in-charge on state bank exams and municipalities. With 14 partners & 3 seniors, I realized shortly that there was not a lot of room at the top, so I left to become a controller.
