PROJECT WORK
> Worked on Final Year Project-SMART TRAFFIC CONTROL
Traffic congestion has become a severe problem in many major
cities across the world and it has become a nightmare for the commuters in
the cities. The proposed system Smart Traffic Control, using a
microcontroller PIC duly interfaced with sensors, changes the junction
timing automatically to accommodate movement of vehicles smoothly avoiding
unnecessary waiting time at the junction and
controlling of street lights. Also the project shows how to produce
valuable electricity with the help of moving vehicles on the road. The
sensors used in this project are IR and photodiodes which are in line of
sight configuration across the roads to detect the density at the traffic
signal. The density of the vehicles is measured in three zones i.e., low,
medium, high based on which timings are allotted accordingly. The street
lights will be switched on in half mode during midnight. Half mode means
alternate lights are to be switched on and rest of the lights will be
switched on if there is traffic on the road. For traffic sensing we have
used two pairs of infra-red sensor on the road. The generation of
electrical energy will be done using DC Dynamo placed under the road in
speed breaker kind of arrangement.
The main objective of the project is the generation of
electricity (thus produced by the Dynamo) with the help of pressure
generated by the vehicles on the speed breaker beneath which the dynamo is
placed and thus generating the energy which can be used for the application
of street lights and traffic signals. The second objective is to reduce
consumption and efficient utilization of the electrical energy which is
done by controlling the street lights with the help of LDR which will sense
the darkness and will make the Infrared Sensors to ON or OFF the street
lights accordingly in the presence or absence of vehicles. The third
objective is to avoid traffic and unnecessary waiting of vehicles at the
junction with the help of Infrared sensors which will approximate the
density of vehicles at the junction and allot time to the signals
accordingly.
