SELECTED ACHIEVEMENTS

Designed, marketed, and implemented an intensive group therapy program, in the Fall River Area. Designed a needs assessment to measure competitors and market the opening; contacted over eighty mental health providers in southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island; designed marketing material packet and compiled marketing items; networked face to face with over fifty providers in the community; established key relationships with referral sources and identified the “value” of their utilization of our services for their clients; designed a structured program to meet the needs of our target consumers; developed a strategic plan to focus on; staff development, site development and program development; hired and trained staff; designed first Crisis Prevention Training Program; established company-wide crisis prevention standards; monitored weekly payroll; monitored weekly staffing patterns; administered all ITP assessments; coordinated all case management services; facilitated specialized group sessions and 1:1 sessions; facilitated individual behavior modification plans; monitored effectiveness, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

Result: Within one year, increased the profit margin of this start-up 300% and established a solid reputation as a creditable mental health resource in southeastern-Massachusetts. This was the fastest single year program growth in the company’s twenty-year history. This much growth typically takes three years of development, and networking, to be successful.

Designed an outpatient “Freedom from Falling Program.” Identified a consumer need for this service; held a meeting with the Vice President of Outpatient Services to gain support for my idea; applied Research Design standards to objectively measure the need and identify any other similar services offered within a fifty-mile radius of the Hospital; designed a twenty-question survey to measure need, application, and methods; administered survey to over 100 elderly providers; administered Creswell’s three-step quantitative method of data collection; analyzed the results of the surveys; compiled a report and turned in to the Vice President of Outpatient Services; held a feedback session to discuss the results; designed a functional based three-step overlapping program, to effective meet the needs of our target consumer ( Emotional, Socially and Physically); tested the program in a four-week trial in order to measure its effectiveness as well as consumer satisfaction.

Result: Used this program as my graduate school practicum (thesis) and delivered a finished product to the hospital. Established my reputation in the Massachusetts health community as an expert on Fall Prevention Treatment.

Established a hospital-wide Fall Prevention Program for the hospital staff. Analyzed previous fall rates per unit; calculated a hospital-wide average; researched monthly hospital fall rates compared to national averages; analyzed the possible causes for our high level of falls; determined that it was a training and systems flaw; held meetings with senior staff to gain support; designed a training program for staff; rewrote policies and procedures to mandate new measures; held staff meetings to gain support of the staff; trained staff to meet the needed safety expectations; monitored the results over a sixteen-month period.

Result: Over eighteen months the staff’s insight on Fall Prevention increased greatly. The fall rate decreased by an average of eleven falls per month to 0.5. Decreased staff incidents of injury from three per month to zero over eighteen months. Decreased liability claims due to fall from five per year to zero.

SELECTED ACHIEVEMENTS

Designed a group facilitator style that would better serve the functional needs of my clients. When I saw the dissatisfaction of mentally ill clients, who were did not appreciate a conventional theory-based style; solicited the feedback of the consumers using open-ended and close-ended questions; analyzed the results in a quantitative manner; used the results to design a more straightforward, functional based approach; tested the approach in group sessions; asked for feedback and polished the style accordingly; continued to adjust this style to fully meet the client’s needs.

Results: This style increased client attendance 300%, increased participation, increased client satisfaction via exit surveys, and caused less breakouts of violent behavior on the psyche units. It also has been well received and emulated by numerous clinicians throughout New England.
