OBJECTIVE: To obtain Environmental Engineer or Environmental Health and Safety position

QUALIFICATIONS: The following were performed at SMM Pogo and Kinross Gold

Participated in a multi-disciplinary team securing ISO 14001 Certification and Internal Auditor for Sumitomo Metal Mining Pogo, LLC (Pogo)

Oversaw mine process water and sewage water treatment plants each with their own APDES discharge permit. Both systems discharged to a salmon spawning river

Developed and maintained internal Pogo EMS and ISO 14001 EMS systems

Collect data, maintain records and manage filing systems for Environmental Health and Safety according to internal procedures and legal requirements

Negotiated, renewed and prepared required reporting for numerous permits under one or more Federal, State, and Local jurisdictions, including but not limited to NPDES (APDES) DMR’s,, SWPPP, SPCC, Cultural Resources, Title V air, ACOE 404 (wetland permitting), permit to operate an incinerator under the 2012 Commercial and Industrial Solid Waste Incinerator for Pogo

Compliance work consists of the following reporting: water (storm, sewage, drinking water and mine process water discharging to a salmon spawning river), Large Quantity Generator biannual reporting (Hazardous Waste), air reporting, EPCRA and Tier 2 reporting, Toxic Release Inventory Form R

Responsible for interacting with Local, State and Federal agencies to assure compliance with laws pertaining to safety, health and environmental and monitor regulatory changes

Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual environmental health and safety reporting to State, and Federal agencies

Able to interact with all levels of the organization and possess strong written and verbal communication skills

Lead and/or review both employee and contractor related EHS safety related training; ensuring EHS compliance

Lead and/or review change managements to ensure new process, equipment or chemical is in compliance with organizational and permit requirements

Prepare initial job hazard analysis (JHA) prior to performing job and involved with root cause analysis after any incident whether personal injury or equipment failure

Investigate EHS incidents to insure prompt corrective actions are completed, communicate corrective actions to team members and incorporated into training and written programs

Responsible for hazardous and non-hazardous waste to be stored, containerized, manifested, transported, and properly disposed and develop cost reduction methods to reduce waste disposal costs

Train company personnel as required on environmental compliance issues and annual environmental training

Provide technical and environmental requirements when adding new equipment to a process

Conduct periodic Environmental audits of the facility to assure compliance

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

March 2009 to August 2015 Sumitomo Metal Mining Pogo, LLC, Pogo Mine, Delta Junction, Alaska, Senior Environmental Engineer: Ensure that permits and plans are maintained and updated as required to Federal, State, and local agencies. Ensure that permit requirements are being met by mine personnel. Maintain all records as required by permits. Supervised two incinerator operators.

August 2006 to March 2009 Kinross Gold, Fort Knox Mine, Fairbanks, Alaska,

Senior Environmental Engineer: Ensured that all permits and plans are maintained and updated as required by Federal, State, and local agencies. Ensured that all permit requirements were completed by mine personnel. Maintained records as required by permits. Prepared monthly, quarterly and annual reports to the State and Federal agencies. Supervised three environmental technicians.

September 2004 to May 2006 AKT Peerless Environmental, Farmington, Michigan

Senior Project Manager: Environmental consulting, designed remediation cleanup systems, prepared environmental assessment reports and supervised two engineers and two geologists.

August 2001 to September 2004 Hydro-Logic Associates, Brighton, Michigan

Senior Environmental Engineer, Project Manager, Hydrogeologist: Environmental consulting, prepared cost estimates, obtained all required permits, supervised contractors, and monitored effectiveness of cleanup for contaminated sites. Remediation systems included but not limited to pump and treat systems, soil vapor extraction, and bio-remediation for cleanup of chemical or petroleum contaminated soil and groundwater. Delineated horizontal and vertical extent of contaminated groundwater plumes for clean-up and/or monitoring. Contaminated water was treated and discharged either under an NPDES permit or into a sanitary sewer system. Discharge sampling was completed to Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) standards.

February 1993 to August 2001 JCK & Associates, Inc., Novi, Michigan

Director of Environmental Services, Environmental Engineer, and Hydrogeologist: Civil engineering firm and I started the environmental department. Working Manager that supervised four professional staff. Reviewed and prepared baseline environmental assessments (BEA), wetland mitigation, environmental assessments (EA) for property transfer, dredging projects and other environmental engineering projects.

September 1992 to February 1993 Ayres, Lewis, Norris, and May, Ann Arbor, Michigan, Hydrogeologist: Civil engineering firm. Performed their environmental assessments and baseline environmental assessments.

April 1989 to September 1992 Delta Environmental Consultants, Farmington Hills, Michigan Staff Engineer: Environmental consulting, designed remediation systems and supervised contractors to ensure jobs were completed correctly and on budget. Prepared cost estimates, and completed over saw drilling and sample collection of soil and groundwater. Designed cleanup systems from pilot plant programs; obtained permits, and supervised the implementation of proposed clean-up systems. Contaminated water was treated and discharge via NPDES permit to surface water or ground water or into sanitary sewer. Designed and installed soil vapor collection wells with off gas passing through small bio remediation unit to test the effect of microorganisms on contaminated vapors from leaking UST; final phase vapors passed through thermal oxidizer and vented to atmosphere. Discharge sampling was completed to MDEQ standards.

October 1986 to April 1989 Dubois Chemicals, Tucson, Arizona

Industrial Chemical Sales Rep: Chemical sales representative for full line food grade and commercial grade chemicals and greases. Main focus was on waste water treatment in the circuit board industry to extract heavy metals out of process waters in order to discharge waste water to sanitary sewer. Worked with several small circuit board companies and was able to help them to clean their waste water for zero dollars by using the sludge that was chemically removed from the waste water and reclaiming the gold and other metals from the sludge for resale.

February 1981 to July 1986 Dowell Schlumberger, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Regional Engineer: Designed, estimated costs, performed on-site engineering and quality control oversight for numerous oil field stimulation projects in Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Kansas, and Colorado to increase oil and gas production. Worked in the deep well stimulation group to increase oil and gas production in wells up to 35,000 feet deep with surface treating pressures of 20,000 psi.
