QUALIFICATIONS
• Versatile in many areas including solid modeling (SolidWorks), with expertise in assembly, testing, and operation of advanced machinery.
• Excels in fast paced, technological oriented positions.
• Outstanding communications skills and great team member. Fun to work with.
• Excellent problem solver who enjoys hands on work (the dirtier the better).
• Great attitude with a tremendous passion for learning new skills.
• One of the hardest working and committed employees you will ever meet. EDUCATION
Northeastern University, Boston MA, May 2007
• Master of Science, Mechanical Engineering; GPA: 3.50/4.0;
• Finite Element Analysis course work
Bates College, Lewiston ME, May 2003
• Bachelor of Science, Physics; GPA: 3.56/4.0;
SKILLS
SolidWorks; LabView; SEM and AFM use, 4pt-Probe; Microsoft Office; machine work including lathe, milling machine, hand tools; MATLAB; Forklift Operation; EMPLOYMENT
Applications Engineer, PVD Products, Inc. Wilmington, MA (March 2010-present) Responsibilities
• Designs thin-film deposition equipment and mechanical components using SolidWorks. Details and releases drawings to machinists and vendors. Includes complex mechanical, fluid handling, and vacuum components.
• Assembles and tests custom thin-film deposition equipment that PVD Products produces. Requires broad mechanical aptitude as well as knowledge of mechan- ics, electrical components, pneumatics, communications protocols, and LabView software.
• Designs and tests new concepts (R&D) that get implemented on full machines. Novel designs often require engineering fixes in the test phase, where in my role as a test engineer, I make recommendations to the lead engineer.
• Versatile beyond engineering role including: customer relations, acting as the company representative at trade shows and conferences, bringing enthusiasm and fun attitude to the company.
• Installs custom thin-film deposition equipment worldwide and trains customers in their use. Requires good communication and cultural tact. Accomplishments
• From start to finish, I designed, assembled, tested, wrote software, and installed unique sputtering machine for a materials science company. Usually a larger team effort, this project was 80% my effort.
• Installed five machines in China used in the production of high temperature su- perconductors.
• Demonstrated a molybdenum deposition process that resulted in an important sale.
• Demonstrated a wafer laser-heating process that also resulted in an important sale to a large semiconductor company.
Engineering Associate, Solasta, Inc. Newton, MA (November 2007-March 2010) Responsibilities
• Designed and built custom machines needed for the unique research work at solar startup. Involved integration of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic compo- nents to meet the needs of novel process development.
• Maintained all equipment used in research and development of thin-film photo- voltaic cells. Included in house sputtering, PECVD, CVD, SEM, and all associat- ed support equipment; as well as general lab and test equipment.
• In charge of lab safety.
Accomplishments
• Designed, built, tested, and characterized a unique CVD system for the deposition of a nanostructured thin-conductive oxide (TCO) films. Process resulted in large efficiency jump in Solasta solar cells.
• Helped oversee the construction of a Class 1000 cleanroom. Junior Scientist, PVD Products, Inc., Wilmington, MA (May 2005-October 2007) Responsibilities
• Assembled custom thin-film deposition equipment and vacuum components
• Installed and repaired custom thin-film equipment and components at customer sites.
• Designed components using SolidWorks.
• Operated and maintained in house sputtering and laser ablation machines for cus- tomer depositions
• Performed machine work, including milling machine and lathe use.
