WORK EXPERIENCE

08/2012 – 02/2016 Tech Advisor – Software Development Halliburton/Landmark, Houston, TX

Develop web applications for Decision Space Integrated Server (DSIS). Designed and implemented the Data Transfer service, modified and improved Order Service for use in data transfer orders, and implemented the related BPM workflows. VDBs, JBoss server, JSON, Odata, JPA, SQL, SQL Server.

Researched and documented design requirements and provided sample implementation for Odata compliant RESTful web service, for use across all web services in DSIS.

Redesigned and implemented DSIS Geolog connector, improved the performance of the connector, making the connector ready for production deployment. C/C++, thrift server, Linux RHEL.

As a system admin, maintained LongJump server (Linux RHEL, Apache Tomcat, MySQL). Yidao Cai page 2

2/2007 – 08/2012 Senior Software Engineer / Application Developer Petris Technology, Houston, TX

Develop and maintain adapters for PWE data management system for oil and gas data

(Geolog, OpenWorks, Petra), using 3rd party API to read/write data from/to the application. Resolve issues at client sites. Linux RHEL, Windows, C/C++, Java, Qt. International character handling. Geodetics, GIS, Blue Marble/ESRI.

Worked on a data service project for ARAMCO, a major oil and gas company, implemented the data load service (one of the two core services in the project) and part of function execution services. Java, SQL.

9/1999 – 2/2007 Research Scientist (Scientific Programmer) University of Texas Houston, Houston, TX

As a member of the computational core facility, provided technical and scientific support to end users in areas of computer simulations, use of software, design and maintained programs to meet the computational needs of the research projects.

Designed and implemented the object-oriented version of SNNAP (one of the leading neural simulation software packages used in scientific research and teaching of neuroscience). Java Swing, 2D graphics and multi-threaded features of Java, graphic user interface (GUI).

Developed a software for simulating neural plasticity using Java (STDP), with an improved data compression technique and a pseudo 3-D display capacity.

Developed a Java Applet based teaching tool for action potentials.

Analyzed computational needs, made recommendations on hardware and software.

Maintained and enhanced earlier versions of SNNAP and SNNAP web site.

Wrote statistical data analysis programs in Perl, simulations in Matlab.

Systems: Linux (including Linux clusters), HP Alpha, Sun Solaris, Windows. 9/1995 - 9/1999 Postdoctoral fellow/Research Associate Boys Town National Research Hospital, Omaha, NE

Developed a neural simulation program based on mathematical modeling and a novel method of efficiently solving a system of partial differential equations (PDEs). The program was written in C, runs on multiple platforms, and is much faster than other programs. A paper was published on the design of the simulation software.

Developed C/C++ programs/utilities for data collection and statistical analysis (DOS and Unix), interfacing with large scale database. PostScript utilities.

Administrated Linux workstations and Apache web server.

Support new lab personals and residents on lab electronics and data collection systems. 2/1990 - 8/1995 Research Assistant

University of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison, WI

Conducted research in auditory physiology, developed a computer model of the cochlea.

Statistical analysis of experimental data.

Member of a team developing a microwave-based noninvasive thermometer for measuring temperatures inside the body.

Taught part of an undergraduate course Biomedical Instrumentation. 9/1984 - 9/1987 Research Assistant

The First Affiliated Hospital of Hubei Medical University Wuhan, Hubei, China

Developed a computerized system for recording cardiac late-potentials (low-amplitude, high-frequency signals generated in the heart).
