A Special Forces (SF) sergeant first class (SFC) carries out policies and standard of the performance, training, appearance and conduct of enlisted personnel foreign and domestic. He advises and initiates recommendations to the Special Forces operational detachment alpha (ODA) commander and staff in matters pertaining to the local foreign soldier support channel. SF soldiers are expected to lead, mentor, fight and live with the local indigenous personnel, far from any U.S. support infrastructure. Whereby planning, developing and maintaining their own means to self-sustain operations. SF SFC’s are expected to at times function completely without supervision.
