SUMMARY

I am a mechanical engineer experienced in the manufacturing/ process engineering domain. Also, I have 8 months of co-op experience, wherein I honed my CAD/CAE skills, while designing tooling for extruded plastic components.

SKILLS

CAD (Solidworks, CATIA) Lean Manufacturing Statistical Analysis (DOE, Control charts)

CAE (ANSYS, polyXtrue) Micro Manufacturing MIG welding

CNC programming (Mastercam) Material Handling system design ERP (SAP)

Injection Molding (Moldflow) Sheet metal Fabrication Microsoft Office

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION

Masters in Mechanical Engineering, Michigan Tech University, GPA 3.67 (Exp. Grad., April 2016).

Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, SRM University, India, GPA 3.7 (Grad. May 2011).

WORK EXPERIENCE

Tooling Engineer Co-op (Plastic Flow LLC, Hancock, USA) August 2015 – April 2016

Simulate polymer flow through plastic extrusion dies using polyXtrue software.

Perform CAE analysis, to support the design improvement of various sheet, blown-film and profile extrusion dies.

Use Solidworks extensively to create and modify CAD models of various mono extrusion and co-extrusion dies, which are employed in the manufacturing of automotive seals, window frames, tire treads etc.

Parameterize critical features of the dies in Solidworks, to enable iterative design modifications.

Significantly contributed towards the flow balancing in more than six commercial extrusion dies.

Process Engineer (Balazee Polymers, Hyderabad, India) September 2013 - July 2014

Performed on-site inspection tests to verify the quality of incoming raw materials like polymer resins, and filler materials which included talc, barytes etc.

Made changes to processing conditions and batch formula, based on the raw material specifications.

Identified high iron concentration in barytes to be the major cause of quality complaints, and worked with supplier to modify the raw material specifications.

Achieved 20% reduction in batch time, by re-organizing the standard work procedure of the operators.

Responsible for the maintenance and troubleshooting of production equipment like the twin screw extruder and other packaging machinery.

Field Engineer (Hyundai Motors Ltd., Mumbai, India) July 2011 - September 2013

Monitored warranty claim data and performed root cause analysis for high cost and recurring claims.

Used SAP to monitor KPI’s of assigned dealerships, and performed on-site process audits, to ensure service operations were carried out as per OEM standards.

ENGINEERING PROJECT EXPERIENCE

Injection Molding (Sept 2014-Dec 2014) – Made a CAD model of the snap joint parts to be molded, and used Autodesk Moldflow software, to simulate the filling of the mold cavity, and subsequently design a 2 cavity family mold by performing runner balancing, to ensure uniform mold filling.

Lean Manufacturing (Jan 2015-May 2015) - Implemented lean manufacturing tools like 5S, theory of constraints, COMMWIP, value stream mapping, standardized work sheets, PFMEA and poka-yoke, to reduce the inventory as well as improve the production of a simulated factory.

Material handling system design (Jan 2015-April 2015) – Worked with a team of three people, during the course of a classroom project, to design a bridge crane, which was used for lifting dies in an automobile press shop. The designing was done in CATIA and structural analysis was carried out in ANSYS, to meet UNE regulations.
