Engineering Projects

Aircraft Foam Sleeves and Ducts Research and Development Project Fall 2012 – Summer 2014

Researched and developed foam sleeves and ducts in a team of two. Responsible for material research, design, developing models, manufacturing and data analysis. Used Boeing specifications to determine sleeve and duct dimensions and requirements, qualifications, and material selection. Used CATIA V5 to develop tools to manufacture foam products. Built the foam products for pressure and burst testing as well as performed data analysis for determining the best heating temperature and process time. The team performed a comparison test with the existing qualified foam product and received an excellent result. Collected the data and presented to managers. The team is waiting for qualification from a major aircraft manufacturer.

Plenum Design Project Fall 2013 – Summer 2014

Created and designed a model using CATIA V5 to improve the current shipping packaging for plenums. Performed foam material research for determining the design and the dimensions of the material (foam). Improved current shipping processes for plenums by utilizing CATIA V5 models.

Manufacturing Method Planning Spring 2012 – Summer 2014

Developed drawings using CATIA V5 based on models from customers. Used Epicor system to create methods for manufacturing parts. By using specifications provided by Boeing, applied testing requirements and materials to manufacture parts. Estimated the quantity of each material and the labor hours to control the cost and the manufacturing time.

Community Organization Wood Furniture Design Project Spring 2012

Successfully managed and designed 15 outdoor furniture units to support IFGF Seattle Church organization within specified costs and constraints. Performed design, material selection, manufacture, and paint with hand tools in this individual project.

Composite Material Testing Spring 2011 – Fall 2011

Created different composite materials and performed coupon testing of composites for the senior aircraft design project. By having materials lab class, performed several tests with different materials such as etching, microscopy, and tensile.

Aircraft Preliminary and Detail Design Spring 2011 – Fall 2011

In a team of 8, designed a multi-functional bush plane. As the person in charge in structures and materials, used Roskam’s method to determine fuselage, wing dimensions, and stress analyses for required range. Built the model for wind tunnel and structural testing, and did material trade study and composite material testing for material selection. Used criteria matrix to determine the best material for the scaled test article and full-scaled component.

Aircraft Structures and Instrumentation Lab Fall 2011

Understanding how to determine shear center location, vibration, stress and strain concentration, and cantilever flexure test etc. with different methods and tests such as applied strain gages or transducers. Developed an I-beam made from composite material to perform a bending experiment for final project by using strain gages and rosettes.

UV Dye Testing Fall 2011

Tested with different angle of attack, and the UV dye on the scaled aircraft model conduct to show flow and vortices.

Gulfstream G500 Aircraft Improvement Design Fall 2011

Tasked with improving the aircraft’s range by changing the shape of the aircraft. Researched different airfoils to increase the range. Manufactured and tested a scaled wind tunnel model. Created a detailed drawing package using CATIA V5.

Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) Wind Tunnel Experiment Fall 2010

Using lasers and camera, captured the flow participation on wings and cylinders.

Professional Experience

AIM Aerospace, Auburn, WA 06/2012-07/2014

Manufacturing Engineer

Utilized standard industry tools such as CATIA V5 software to successfully generate new designs to expand company product lines such as air ducts, shipping package, foam sleeves, and plenum.

Incorporated innovative manufacturing solutions and utilized MRP/EPICOR to improve and streamline existing procedures and production lines.

Actively contributed ideas to R&D projects and employed problem solving techniques to address critical requests from international clients.

Reviewed and approved drawings using ASME Y14.5 standards. Understand and review customer (Boeing) specifications and inputs.
