I was hired as a registered nurse in the medical department where I saw patients in a clinic and assisted with delivery of care much like in an urgent care setting. I assumed a new position as a Psychiatric Nurse working directly under a licensed psychologist to care for the mentally ill inmates. My duties involved providing treatment for acute psychiatric crisis and medical care. treatment for other conditions such as drug/alcohol withdrawal and other acute medical/mental health conditions was provided.

Before receiving my nursing degree I worked as an MHT on all units of the hospital. As an RN, I worked on all units including (many as charge nurse): Adult broad spectrum disorders, Duel Diagnosis (drug and alcohol addiction) child and adolescent, and Trauma (PTSD, Sexual assault victims, and DID). Responsibilities included: Passing medications, completeing mental health assessments, taking off doctors’ orders, writing new MARs, writing and updating treatment plans, and facilitating group. Medical care for safe detoxification from drugs and alcohol was provided.
