Purchased, stocked and delivered various chemicals to production and fabrication clean rooms onsite. Maintained SAP database of chemical stores, including receiving new materials into and issuing used materials out of the database. Shipped out HAZMAT items using proper DOT/IATA/IMDG regulations and procedures. Maintained onsite means of production including replacing empty gas cylinders, requiring the use of full-face respirators hooked up to compressed breathable air cylinders and the ‘buddy system’ in case of emergency. Some of these gases are extremely deadly, such as phosphine and arsine, and require extreme care, patience and strict following of established procedures. Was instrumental in helping to complete and put into action an ambitious site-wide project to allow for live status tracking of various bulk chemicals and gas cylinders. Did various task-studies and analyzed day-to-day measurement data to improve efficiency of work processes and increase team communication and site awareness.

Worked in a ‘Parts Warehouse’ which stocks thousands of different parts for use in refurbishing and repairing medical endoscopes by technicians on shop floor. Requested parts spit out of ticket machines and we pull them and deliver to requesting technician. Used JDE database to locate parts and current statuses. Refurbished dry chemical powder fire extinguishers. This included taking them apart, cleaning them, replacing broken or worn out parts, refilling powder, putting them back together and re-pressurizing them with nitrogen using high-pressure nitrogen cylinders. Also did leak tests on pressurized fire extinguisher cylinders to ensure safety and integrity. This job requires good hand-eye coordination and experience with using various tools such as clamps, screwdrivers, pliers, power drills, etc. and a general understanding of the mechanics of pressurized devices.

Unloaded trailers of hazardous waste using forklifts/hand-trucks/pallet jacks. Inventoried and sampled said hazardous waste in staging area, and then transported palletized containers to appropriate areas for processing or shipping. During spill clean-ups or container sampling, Level C PPE was required, which involved full-face cartridge-filter respirator, full-body yellow Tyvek, and double- or triple-nitrile gloves duct-taped over Tyvek sleeves. This job required knowledge of state regulations of hazardous waste for disposal and on-site storage, EPA hazardous waste codes, and DOT Hazard Classification codes.

Performed cycle-count audits of chemical laboratories and chemical storage rooms. Work closely with lab chemists to account for each location’s audit discrepancies. Collected and dispose of unusable chemicals in labs and storage areas and separate lab packs. Segregated containers for return-to-stock based on chemical family and other characteristics. Tasked with maintaining and curating MSDS documents and CAS registry numbers of materials in inventory database. Received and processed custom virgin chemicals for scientists and delivered them.
