I have a very unique background, one that combines 25 years of professional high-technology experience and leadership along with a recent MA in Education and a year as the Academic Director in a Malaysian English school. I am currently exploring options in both education as well as commercial industry in the pursuit of finding a position that would take advantage of my wide breadth of experience. Though obtaining an MA in Education may not be a traditional life choice for a seasoned high-tech veteran, it is part of my desire to develop business and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) skills in professionals and university students worldwide. My objective is to enable others to participate in the international community by sharing with them my knowledge and insights in STEM and industry. At this point in my professional life, I feel a need to mentor others rather than simply continue to develop my own career.

A brief summary of my high-tech and education experiences include the following:

As detailed in my employment summary below, I have worked for large corporations (Microsoft, Apple, Philips) as well as small start-ups. I have held multiple positions in high-tech management, up to the director level in Silicon Valley, focusing on consumer electronics and professional services. In these positions, I have delivered countless products to market and have become very adept in methodologies such as Agile and Scrum, and I have become an expert in people management, including the ability to analyze and correct underperforming teams.

My career has included many years of working with individuals from around the globe, including diverse populations such as China, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, India, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Russia, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, and others. I enjoy working with people of all nationalities and from all walks of life.

As stated above, for the last year I was the Academic Director in a Malaysian English school where I taught adult students in preparation for the IELTS exam. Additionally, I actively developed EST (English for Science and Technology) and EBP (English for Business Purposes) content for STEM and business professionals who needed to learn English for college or career.

My Master’s thesis, available here, focused on optimizing the teaching of STEM lexicon to adult Non-Native English Speakers (NNES).

During graduate school, I specialized in pedagogical enhancements to EST education based on structured, task-based, collaborative processes with an emphasis on multimodal techniques and universal design for learning (UDL), matters which perfectly complement and enhance my high-tech leadership skills. Through this experience, I had a chance to see how techniques such as scaffolding and technical mentoring can boost success in both an educational as well as an industrial environment. A case study describing the experience is available here. I am available for either FTE or contract positions in any location worldwide, and I am open to extensive travel. My compensation needs are very flexible as I am more concerned with job satisfaction than with simply maximizing monetary income.

In short, I am currently looking for opportunities that would enable me to combine the passions of my life, high-technology along with mentoring and teaching. Mark A. Poese acuc3j@r.postjobfree.com 408-***-****
