As the program supervisor it is my responsibility to develop individualized treatment goals and ensure the program interventions are being utilized by foster parents; supervise skills trainer and family therapist; to track and document the progress of each client in the program; to provide mental health services; to complete and maintain the proper paperwork for billing through the state Medi-Cal procedures; and to submit quarterly effectiveness reports to the state. As a family therapist in the program, my role was to support the supervisor in the activities described above including needs assessment and diagnosis, treatment goals, personal visits, parental interventions, and billing. I worked as a member of a multidisciplinary team to build rapport with foster youth. The therapeutic goals included improving self-regulation skills, interpersonal skills and academic skills. This position also included advocating for the rights of foster care youth; enhancing communication between foster parent and foster child; maintaining progress reports, and linking youth to community services (e.g., dance classes, chess clubs, tutoring services, and skate board parks). I provided extra support for 10 cases.
