WORK EXPERIENCES

Research Assistant in CWRU Feb 2015 – Now

• Researched on operation and hierarchical control of electromagnetic model of Microgrid using software PSCAD, and economic dispatch and energy scheduling based on AMMIS. Design Assistant for Online Course Linear System (408) April 2015 – Aug 2015

• Designed and prepared online class, exam and lecture notes in LaTeX and PPT, circuit drawing in Microsoft Visio and Matlab.

Lab Assistant/Recitation for Course Circuit and Instrument (210) Aug 2014 – May 2015

• Offered instructions on circuits and electronics, maintained devices like oscilloscope and graded lab reports.

• Recitation: Assisted individual assessment and group study in class for 200 students. Internship at Henan Electric Power Survey and Design Inst. of China March 2013 - May 2013 Project: 500KV Substation Low-Voltage Side Design and Optimization

• Participated in the bid-evaluation on different designs of H-GIS and Capacitors’ implement in 66kV system.

• Assisted AutoCAD designing for wiring diagram in transformer substation and relay protection coordination in transmission lines, grounding system to prevent voltage surge from lightning, and related drawings such as electric lightening system design and VAR-compensation device layout. RESEARCH PROJECTS

• Built up PSCAD battery model and its VSC (Voltage Source Control) inverter using power electronics like IGBT and Diode. The inverter adopted current-decoupling control in d-q frame so that 4-quadrant active/reactive control is achieved. Also built synchronous generator model with 3 phase motor control system.

• Built up 34 bus distributed system with three microgrids in PSCAD as a prototype of IEEE 1547, and simulation cases including transient states of load shedding and fault analysis while stabilizing voltage and frequency. Published one journal paper and one conference paper based on this project.

• Java Programming in software DrJava on bank account database, chess game with graphical user interface design, calculator based on Newton-Raphson Algorithm, and tested the programs with JUnit.

• Verilog programing on Calculator based on CORDIC iteration algorithm, simulated in ModelSim and layout in ADK.

• Hands-on experience with battery and wind turbine circuit implementations on the roof of office building. In the turbine design competition, I made a model with 6-blades, acquired data in MATLAB, analyzed the characteristics from the simulation result and reported on pros/cons over normal 3-blades turbines.

• A two-stage stochastic linear programming model was built based on 13 feeder model with renewable sources. Optimized the cost with the information such as real-time electricity market price, and probability distribution of daily solar and wind energy. Finally achieved optimal scheduling in energy resources at the system’s lowest cost. PUBLICATION
