TERADATA/San Diego, CA 2014 -present

Senior Product Manager

Leader of a "Managed for Success" cross-functional team (comprising about 20 people including several engineering managers, development engineers, other product managers and quality assurance people) for a strategic new Workload Management Capacity on Demand (WM COD) product used for a Teradata enterprise data warehouse platform.

Provided thought leadership as the team developed use cases and success criteria. Built and maintained strong relationships with team members. The result of the team activity was a successful launch of the product with positive customer feedback.

Managed an existing Metadata Services (MDS) product, worked with engineering using agile development and methodologies using Jira and Confluence. Introduced REST web service interfaces into the product roadmap.

HEWLETT-PACKARD/ San Diego, CA 2011-2012

Program Manager

Program manager for the development of a new conceptual Cloud/Mobile based Personalized Learning System using tablets for the K-12 education market, sponsored by the HP Office of Global Social Innovation (OGSI). Investigated a SaaS infrastructure for the system.

Lead a group of enterprise and cloud architects, user experience architects, subject matter experts and developers. Inspired the team with a spirit of collaboration to deliver results. Delivered a Market Requirement Document (MRD), Product Requirement Document (PRD) and a High Level Design (HLD), which was approved and ratified by the OGSI leadership team and their stakeholders. Used an Agile software development methodology.

SOUND TECHNOLOGIES/Carlsbad, CA 2007 -2009

Senior Software Engineer

Designed a system for a medical device that moves DICOM digital X-ray data between Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS) and patient management systems. Developed using C# and Visual Studio .Net. It used an XML based format resulting in improved data communication

Developed UML class diagrams, activity diagrams (flow charts), and sequence diagrams.

INTEL CORPORATION/San Diego, CA 1999-2006

Senior Architect

Experience working in a start-up environment at the company iPivot which was eventually acquired by Intel in 1999.

Major achievement was architecting, designing and developing a prototype using C and java languages for the XML Director-Accelerator (an internet network traffic router/server) that was awarded the 2000 Las Vegas Networld+Interop Grand Prize Best of Show. For this effort received an Intel Achievement Award, the highest honor for work performance at Intel.

After the show, wrote a product requirements document and a functional specification for the XML product. Converted the prototype that implemented the high level design into components leading to productization. Also provided thought leadership, managed, trained and mentored a group of 5 developers on the project.

Produced 14 patent applications related to the XML networking technology of the product that has been issued by the U.S. patent office between 2004 and 2013.

Assisted in leading an Intel cross platform (servers, desktops, laptops, wireless devices) and cross-functional team for the architecture, design and implementation of a WS-Management application for IT systems management. The team had 10 architects and developers and was a sub-team and partner of a larger overall team of 50 architects and developers. Developed programmatic interfaces for the architecture using C# in a Visual Studio .Net environment.

INTERLEX SYSTEMS/ San Diego, CA 1987-1999

Founder

Architected, designed and developed cross platform enterprise design/manufacturing database oriented applications with highly optimized graphical user interfaces. The applications used a knowledge / rule base to automatically generate manufacturing work instructions and to simulate manufacturing process flows for factory automation equipment. The applications were implemented using C, C++ and Java.

Worked collaboratively with clients IT personnel to agree on data interchange models and data formats, so the data could be extracted data from Oracle ERP and/or SAP enterprise applications and re-purposed for the Interlex application.

Managed the entire product lifecycle from initial concept, software development, beta test, marketing, sales, installation, training, support, and user feedback and feature enhancements. Worked with customers to translate their requirements into new product capabilities.

Application usage resulted in a dramatic increase in end user productivity saving customers millions of dollars. Major customers included Qualcomm, Motorola, Nortel and Cardinal Health. The Qualcomm engagement lasted 7 years with a resulted customer cost savings of over $5 million.
