URBAN EXPANSION OBERVATORY
The work of the Urban Expansion Observatory is part of a project entitled Monitoring Global Urban Expansion. This project seeks to measure physical, economic, and demographic characteristics of cities in three time periods – 1990, 2000, and 2010. The project studies a stratified global sample of 200 cities in 84 countries, representing 78% of the global urban population. The work is being collected on behalf of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, and is scheduled to be complete in time for the upcoming Habitat III Conference in October 2016. This output will act as a coherent piece of work which will help to define next 20 years global Urban Policy frame work.
Duties and Responsibilities
1.Extraction and interpretation of urban layouts from high resolution satellite imageries through ArcGIS and Java Open Street Map.
2.Digital image processing of 200 cities globally using ERDAS Imagine 2014 for the time period of 1990, 2000 and 2010.
3.Quality Assessment/Quality Checking of extracted urban layouts.
4.Finding and fixing of Vectorization errors through Python Script.
