PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Facility Maintenance/Energy Manager ~ Merck AH-Millsboro, DE ~ 2013 – 2015

Manage multi-site facility and aseptic production maintenance operation to support the production of vaccines for the animal health industry. Guide a team of 16 in-house maintenance personnel, and multiple contractors with the department’s goal of providing world class maintenance support, while reducing M & R spend. Responsibilities include building infrastructure ( cleaning, maintenance, repairs & modifications), site grounds (landscaping & snow removal), utilities (normal and emergency, building steam & production clean steam, WFI, HVAC & HVACR, BMS, waste treatment, and compressed gases), integrated stockroom, fire, security (includes managing an outsourced security team), and various types of production equipment. Address and investigate compliance issues associated with quality & safety, mitigate any non-compliance findings within target date. Ensure that maintenance complies with all GMP/VMD/USDA requirements.

Safety Management- responsible for facility safety initiatives and weekly safety presentations.

Tier Maintenance Group Lead- (MPS/lean six sigma) site wide initiative in the communication and mitigation process of addressing and informing of site issues at the proper management level. To ensure that problems are addressed and corrected in a timely manner with the least amount of impact on production and cost.

Site Incident Commander (working under safety director) - involved in the planning and implementation of evacuation plans and drills for fire, spills, natural disasters etc.

PM optimization- evaluated maintenance PM’s efficiencies, based evaluations on tasks, time, relativeness, frequency and possible TPM hand off. Reduced in 2013 ~4 00 hours of non-productive time from the PM section of CMMS.

Energy Management-identify and implement energy saving projects that have less than a two year pay back, manage energy demand response to reduce peak loads and electrical consumption.

Maintenance Manager ~ Merck/Schering Plough Corporation-Kenilworth, NJ ~ 2007 – 2012

Managed an in-house staff of multiple crafts, contractors and vendors in the maintenance, renovation, and repair of a 1.2 million sq ft. drug discovery facility, which is made up of 2500 labs, vivarium, 24/7 data center and an administrative wing. Responsibilities also include the management of a 6.5 Megawatt emergency power system, multiple high & low vacuum and compressor systems, a 7-unit chiller plant, 6 sub stations, a full scale building automation system, and the maintenance of various types of lab equipment.

Safety Management Champion- responsible for facility safety initiatives, weekly safety presentations, safety committee chairperson and member of multi-site safety team.

Reliability Centered Maintenance team member- for multi-site collaboration of preventive and predictive maintenance standardization.

Emergency Power Committee team leader- for the management of emergency power allocation throughout the facility. Committee is made up of department heads that review requests, make recommendations, and approve the tie in of equipment on the emergency power network.

Energy Management Champion- responsible for facility energy conservation, emergency demand response and the implementation and management of energy projects.

K-15 Synchronous Belt Retrofit Project champion/facilitator (lean six sigma project). The project evaluated energy and maintenance savings by changing HVAC equipment V-belt drives to Synchronous drives. The estimated was approximately $70,000 with an approximate two year pay back.

Performed energy and reliability analysis on 104 HVAC drives and proposed a $370,000 drive replacement project with a 1.4 year payback and a five year energy saving s of almost $1 million, and satisfied a reliability issue.

Responsible for budgeting projects and long term contractor purchase orders.

Electrical Supervisor ~ New York Times Company – Edison, NJ ~ 1992 – 2007

Managed a team of ten Journeyman Electricians in a high speed newspaper production facility . Optimized the electrical function of production and facility equipment. Supervised new installations, maintenance, and repairs. Engineered and supervised the installation of systems to existing equipment to improve productivity and reduce operating costs. Coordinated efforts with various department heads and senior management to meet production deadlines of the newspaper. Produced reports, work orders, and employee time reports.

Engineered and integrated a modification of a lift system that completely eliminating $30,000 in annual repair costs.

Designed a new motor-to-encoder gear system that improved product delivery efficiency by 20%.

Engineered and installed a conveyor slowdown system that boosted product quality by 15%.

Performed the retrofitting of a new drive to replace an obsolete model, saving $5,000 in outside engineering costs.

Serve as Member and Co-Chairman of the Process Improvement Committee, and a member of the Union Contract Negotiation Team; utilize Six Sigma and Green Belt techniques to improve plant efficiency.
