ACADEMIC PROJECTS

Title: Stabilization of Mud Blocks.

Team size: 4

Worked on a project “Stabilization of Mud Blocks as an alternative building material “and our project was recognized by KSCST (Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology) and funded a sum of 5000 rupees.

Project Description:

Investigated locally available soil and examined its suitability for stabilized earth block production. Experimentally studied the effect of alternating important variables such as quarry dust, cement content, and sugarcane bagasse on the properties and the performance of stabilized earth blocks. Determined the optimum percentage of the stabilizer based on compressive strength, water absorption and linear shrinkage. Studied the influence of curing method on the compressive strength, water absorption and linear shrinkage

Conclusion:

Use of quarry dust along with sand in ratio 1:1 has increased its compressive strength

Increase in Cement content has caused an increase in compressive strength

28 days of wet curing was more effective owed to hydration of cement

Use of sugarcane bagasse along with cement was not effective as a stabilizing agent

Lower the sugarcane bagasse content and higher the percentage of cement, lower was the shrinkage.

Higher the percentage of cement, higher was water absorption

Mini Projects:

Designed the model of “surplus weir with stepped apron and canal drop” using thermocol.

Highway alignment and design of pavement: Performed a survey at Melukote to see the possibility if laying a highway to connect the village/town to the city for the ease of connectivity and saving time.

Seminar at college: Shear Wall concept and Earth quake resistant building.

In the seminar the main point of view was how to safeguard the buildings from earth quake forces by using simple and effective design which also turn out to be economic in nature.

Internship: Successfully completed Internship in MATHRU CONSTRUCTION as a field Engineer.
