TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE
Materials Modification Inc. Fairfax, VA
Materials Engineer Intern June 2015 – August 2015
Teamed and participated with senior engineers on a variety of R&D projects under the SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) Program for government entities such as the DoD, U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, and NASA.
Responsibilities included product development from the lab-scale to pilot-plant scale and commercialization. Conducted lab-scale and scale-up synthesis of materials and coatings, created and presented professional biweekly PowerPoint presentations and written reports detailing findings and accomplishments.
Developed a novel superhydrophobic coating for aramid, cotton, and polyester fabrics that is competitive with commercial products without compromising the properties of the fabric. Developed a method of transitioning the coating process from lab-scale to an industrial-scale pad/bath process.
Synthesized a novel transparent superhydrophobic thin-film coating for glass substrates.
Coordinated and collaborated with fellow engineers to solve complex science and engineering problems.
University of Maryland Energy Research Center College Park, MD
Undergraduate Researcher – Wachsman Energy Research Group May 2014 – August 2014
Research mainly focused around Solid Oxide Fuel Cells, specifically, the conversion of methane into more useful chemicals via the non-oxidative methane aromatization reaction using a ceramic membrane reactor.
Assisted with the testing and implementation of various membranes specifically with the optimization and formation of the membrane.
Used mechanical, chemical and electrical knowledge to troubleshoot and improve manufacturing process and equipment issues.
Tracked/reviewed manufacturing processes, maintain records, and ensure proper disposition of discrepant materials to maintain safety.
Applied chemical engineering fundamentals and knowledge to optimize, design, specifications, plans and requisition of structures, systems and equipment.
PROJECTS
Benzocaine Synthesis Lab College Park, MD
Project Team Leader October 2013 – November 2013
Performed reflux, separation and recrystallization to synthesize Benzocaine under control conditions to achieve desired outcome.
Analyzed purity using IR and NMR Spectroscopy to distinguish between reactants and products.
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE
Holistic Acupuncture & Physical Therapy Center Gaithersburg, MD Physical Therapy Assistant August 2011 – August 2013
Created physical therapy exercise worksheets and diagrams.
Maintained and organized insurance information for over 1,000 patients to comply with state and county guidelines.
