Title: Impedances seen by the relay during swing with and without faults. (01/2015 - 05/2015)

Objective: To determine the behavior of relays during faults and swings.

Drawn Impedance charts and developed a unified code in MATLAB® for various pre-fault system conditions.

Created One-line diagram and performed coordination studies of distance relays using ASPEN.

Designed 220 kv Transmission line, 500 MW Generator in ATP draw.

Traced impedance of test system using ATPDraw v6.0 and tested the values using SEL 311L relay.

Title: Smart Energy Management system for Residential purpose (01/2015 - 05/2015)

Objective: Implementing Fuzzy Logic to improve the battery life and performance

Active Data input from solar, wind and current availability from grid and adaptive control switching of charging and discharging battery based on current SOC level of battery and prices of the grid in 24 hour time format.

Data comparison based on historic load data and current estimated data from the ISO to prevent loss or outage conditions.

Data storage for record keeping and to utilize for estimating demand and generation.

Made a detailed report on FERC and NERC compliances to ISO’s for approval to integrate with grids.

Title: Unit Commitment & Optimal Power Flow for IEEE 30 bus system (09/2014 – 12/2014)

Objective: To design a program to solve Unit Commitment problem in Day-a-Head markets using GAMS.

Researched on MISO markets, load handling concepts and developed a report for scheduling load.

Reengineered the problem of considering many constraints and resolved the problem of convergence.

Modeled a program to solve for AC optimal Power flow in real time Using day ahead results both real and reactive power flow is carried out to get more precise simulation environment.

Title & objective: Economic Load dispatch using conventional vs. Meta Heuristic Algorithms. (09/2014 – 12/2014)

Simulated solvers “Fast lambda Iteration Method & Simulated Annealing” based on algorithm with an actual generator model consisting Prohibited operating zones.

Developed a user-friendly GUI based optimization program in MATLAB to find the Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) of a power system.

Tested it against a standard models taken from various papers to validate the efficiency of the solver.

Developed a report of Pros and Cons of considering Non-Prohibited operating zones for solving an ELD.

Title & objective: Substation expansion problem (01/2014 - 04/ 2014)

Used Meta heuristics algorithm - Simulated Annealing to find the optimum placement of a substation.

Coded in MATLAB with placement constraints that are mainly useful and some relaxed constraints to solve the problem in a trade-off manner.

Title: Effect of Transients due to Shunt reactor switching on selection of CB in EHV system (01/2014 - 04/ 2014)

Objective: To determine the circuit breaker ratings to eliminate damage due to switching transients.

Designed 500 kv Transmission line in ATP for simulating De-Energization and Energization phenomenon for an EHV system Using ATP to find the ratings of CB.

Performed in detail study of transients for De-Energization of the EHV system with few possible chopping currents.

Title & objective: Performance Study of STATcoms and SVC (01/2013 - 05/2013)

Case study on Power factor improvement and reliability of gird using STATcoms and SVC.

Compared the performance using a standard 14 bus systems with inclusion of these and wind energy plant using PSAT as a tool for the P-V nose curves to decide the stability of the system.

Contingency Analysis and voltage improvement suggestions based on test results.

Title: Reliability Assessment of the Wind Power System (08/2015 - 12/2015)

Objective: To investigate the effects of wind energy on power system's reliability.

Followed Probabilistic Analytical method Capacity Outage Probability Table.

Implemented Frequency and Duration method.

Calculated the Loss of load Expectation and individual state probability for the units.

Fully automated code that can access excel file data and generate output to MATLAB Command Window in a tabular format. Works fine with 8 unit system.

Title & Objective: Contingency Analysis for a 6 bus system. (08/2015 - 12/2015)

Contingency Analysis of Power System using Line Stability Indices

Performed contingency analysis using indices of line stability for a 6-bus system in PowerWorld Simulator and Wolfram Mathematica.
