Present Employer & Work

Presently I am working as a Principal Structural Engineer at American Electric Power

at their Gahanna Office in Columbus Ohio since July 01, 2001 to present.

Managed the workload of several engineers and designers for Electric subs station structures and foundations.

BELCAN ENGINEERING GROUP, Cincinnati, OH

Designed five stories steel frame structure for the Fatty Acid manufacturing facility. Designed the structural steel supports for the related equipment supported at different floors. The structured was designed for dead loads, live loads, wind loads, equipment loads and seismic loads using manual and STADD III software during design and analysis. Made field trip and did the field audit to avoid any interference from the existing structures.

Check the engineering calculations of other engineers and review and approve

drawings before issuing for construction.

Summary of Experience:

Designed and analysed steel structures for paper, pharmaceutical and other industrial projects. Designed roof framing system using bar joists that were supported on 12" load bearing masonry wall on one side and steel beams on the other side. On masonry support the bar joist ends were welded to the bearing plates, which were anchored in the masonry wall and on the other end directly on the steel beams.

Designed bar joists for roof dead loads, live load (snow loads), equipment loads (air handling systems) and other miscellaneous loads below the roof such as lighting fixtures, ducts, conduits etc.

Designed the support platform for the fiber delivery system for the diaper manufacturing facilities. This fiber delivery system consisted of fiber storage rotating drum, ducts and blower system. Designed beams for equipment dead load, live loads and seismic loads. Designed the size of grating for floor dead and live loads.

Designed the column base plate and anchor bolts for critical loading conditions. Designed the spread footing system for the critical loading conditions for different combination of loads. I concluded that the footing must be placed 4'-5' below the finished floor for safety against over-turning and sliding.

Designed foundations for columns. The top of the footing was flush with the floor for the safety of people and forklift operators. Designed column protection posts for the building columns as required by client.

Designed pile foundation for the bents and towers,

Designed and analyzed the caissons for electric sub-station structures which were usually multisided poles. I designed the embedded depth for the Transmission Poles where poles had to be embedded in ground, as the moments at grade level were not big.

Used L- Pile software to compute caisson depth, diameter and embedment depths for Dead-end Structures.

Soil properties, were provided by Geotechnical Company and foundation loads were provided by the pole vendors. Reviewed the computer output results and compared with the design limits.
