To Whom it May Concern,

It has come to my attention that your school is seeking teachers for the upcoming school year to teach in various programs.

I am a currently a certified teacher holding a professional certificate from New York State in General Education/Special Education 5-9. For the past two and a half years, I have been employed by the NYC Dept of Education. Currently I teach a self-contained high school class with a ratio of 15:1, I am also currently a seasoned worker for Home Instruction School. I believe that my extensive experience in special education and curriculum development would make me a strong special education teacher at Home Instruction School.

I have been working in special education for over eight years before I became employed by the NYC Dept of Education. I have taught diverse groups of students with ADD/ADHD, autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, learning disabilities, speech impairments, and noncompliant behavior. My skills in differentiated instruction, and multi-sensory lesson planning allow me to meet the needs of every student.

My years of experience have taught me the value of patience and encouragement in the special education classroom. I work closely with each student, providing the individualized support and praise they require. I also make sure to stay connected with family members and any specialists involved, to encourage the success of each student, both in and outside of the classroom. I’ve truly appreciated and learned from every child and every family I have worked with.

I am confident that my training, education, experience, and enthusiasm will be an asset to your students, their families and the school. I have enclosed my resume for your review. I look forward to hearing from you and welcome the opportunity to interview.

Philosophically, I believe that all children can learn. In order to teach the child you have to meet the child where they’re at and then educate the whole child.

Sincerely,

Dixie Laborde, MS, ED
