Position: Production & Engineering Manager

Responsibilities: Supervise crew of 65 employees, (7) Salary positions and 58 hourly positions including Production, Quality, Packaging and Maintenance. Directly involved with all plant operations, management and process improvement initiatives. Responsible for all aspects of production and maintenance activities including hiring and firing of direct reports. Second in command in plan hierarchy reporting to the Plant Manager.

Accomplishments:

New plant startup, 330,000 square feet, $90 million investment, all brand new equipment installed.

Directly involved with equipment buyoff and acceptance of new equipment at the vendor facilities (across the world) as well as commissioning of new equipment to quality and efficiency standards.

Directly involved with plant operation, management and process improvement initiatives.

Instrumental in coordinating and carrying out training with associates, machine vendors as well as TMCC training sessions.

Develop production schedules based on customer requirements (shifts, manning, changeovers, etc.)

MRO and spare parts inventories established and monitored for quality control and reduced downtime. (Implemented MSC vending system on plant floor for distribution of routine materials including PPE.)

Established and enforce internal TPM and PM schedules for equipment. Work with outside vendors for maintenance schedules as necessary.

Assisted in the implementation of SAP, APL & APS systems in the plant.

Developed and initiated manual tracking of items until automated system were in place and running to ensure delivery date compliance, stock control and minimal downtime.

1/7/08 – 9/13/13 Kennametal Inc., Fallon, Nevada

Position: Maintenance Manager

Responsibilities: Supervise crew of roughly 16 employees, which include a Purchasing Agent, Maintenance Mechanics and Electricians. Responsible for the maintaining and repairs of production equipment, initiating TPM principles throughout the facility, upgrades to facilities, equipment and processes, purchasing and installing new equipment, hiring contractors to perform work onsite, coordinating of large projects with corporate engineering. The facility produces $150M in sales of tungsten carbide powders per year and has a Maintenance operating budget of roughly $2.8M per year. Directly involved with the hiring, firing and layoffs of employees under my direct report and report directly to the Plant Manager.

Accomplishments:

Received a Lean Green Belt in TPM and have initiated TPM Small Teams in production areas utilizing Lean Manufacturing Principles.

Successfully implemented a solvent recovery system that saved the plant 2 months worth of production losses due to EPA air permit limitations.

Implemented a cardboard recycling program, which saved the plant roughly $1200 per month as the cardboard was being hauled off to the landfill.

Initiated component standardization on equipment to help eliminate the need for many different spare parts and manufacturers in order to reduce inventories and control costs.

Successfully repaired equipment designated as non-repairable due to high costs at a savings of over $82,000 to the plant. Costs were projected at $98,000 for (3) pieces of equipment and were able to get them repaired for roughly $16,000 in FY09.

In FY09, under my direction, the maintenance department was involved with cost savings measures of $240k to the plant, FY10 was $357k and the first (2) months of FY11 we had over $140k in cost savings/ cost avoidance initiatives.

Compiled the FY11 Capital budget and requirements for the entire Metallurgical Group under the direction of the Director of Global Metallurgical Operations ($9.3 million).

Requested by the Director of Global Metallurgical Operations to travel to sister plants to help them with Maintenance and Manufacturing issues.

2003 – 2008 Chrysler LLC, Perrysburg, Ohio

Position: Area Maintenance / Production Supervisor

Responsibilities: Report to Maintenance Area Manager. Supervise up to 30 maintenance skilled trades and production associates assigned to the area. Organize and manage all area maintenance activities including preventative maintenance of equipment, installations and upgrades of machinery as well as production support. Work to achieve 95% uptime of equipment within area of responsibility. Adhere to SQDCM measures to increase production throughput and effectiveness of machinery while also increasing safety and morale of workforce.

Accomplishments:

Successfully launched the production and maintenance activities for 2nd and 3rd shift in new production area.

Implementation of Smart/Lean Manufacturing initiatives for Maintenance to new production area.

Designed and implemented benchmark preventative and predictive maintenance programs.

Involved with launching Small Teams and TPM groups into the area and setting up Practical Problem Solving Boards to address issues and track progress.

Initiated a Fixed PM program into area of responsibility, sanitized the PM program to reduce redundancy and keep only value added activities. Worked with production counterpart to set up schedule to release critical equipment during normal working hours based on part banks.

1997 – 2003 Chrysler LLC, Perrysburg, Ohio

Position: Plant Engineer / Facilities Engineer, Manufacturing Engineering

Responsibilities: Supervision of multi-million dollar assembly lines from concept through installation on production floor, including writing of capital funds appropriation requests, defining scopes, soliciting quotes, writing of purchase requisitions after negotiating pricing with vendors, working with vendors to keep project on time and within budget, developing floor plan layouts, working with outside contractors to develop scopes, budgets, and timing for installation of equipment, oversee installation of equipment and make decisions on the fly to keep projects moving and within time and budget constraints, sign off on invoices after projects are completed, facility upgrades and expansion projects. Performed plant layouts via AutoCad. Solved material handling issues on the production floor.

Accomplishments:

Successfully purchased and installed (6) steering column assembly lines, (1) torque converter assembly line and a large scale material handling upgrade project on time and within budget.

Lead Plant Mechanical Engineer assigned for purchase and installation of new production equipment, including run off on vendor’s floor, shipping and receiving.

Worked on plant expansion project that would have brought a new CMA area, new upgraded shipping and receiving docks as well as additional production area to the plant.

Upgraded much of the production floor with painted ceilings and columns, epoxy coating of the flooring, new lighting as well as demolition of unused utility drops.

Taught many of the existing Engineers the use of AutoCad.
