SUMMARY

I am a versatile, results-oriented chemical engineer with interest in process optimization and process modeling. My past work experience includes working with engineers from various backgrounds to build/modify and utilize simple software tools that aid in improvement of chemical process design and control. I also have a robust background in using statistical software tools to conduct data analysis.

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

Process Automation Engineer, CDI on assignment with The Dow Chemical Company – R&D Plastics Division, South Charleston, WV, July 2013 present

APC (Advanced Process Control): This role was aimed at tracking/optimizing plant performance and providing automation support for APC.

•Developed an improved cooling control by analyzing heat removal data from the plant, resulting in increased plant operating rates

•Analyzed plant data, and prepared APC performance statistics to drive improved control methods. Documented findings in a technical report.

•Modified, tested, and commissioned APC code to address various bug fixes, improvements, or new technology, in order to support the advance of Dow technology standards.

•Installed, configured, and tested new project builds, for global delivery of APC technology to new licensees

•Analyzed DOW plant operation with ASPEN Process Explorer to provide additional support and guidance on utilization and performance of process control systems to the plant engineers

Plant Process Simulator: A simulation program used to train new plant operators.

•Interpreted P&IDs, control system data sheets, equipment spec sheets, and process logic diagrams to develop simulator coding

•Developed and implemented compressor flow model to reflect more realistic process behavior

•Developed and implemented various FORTRAN, VB.NET and vba scripts using convergence algorithms, iterative solutions, and other numerical methods

•Developed excel tools to emulate the key calculation blocks of the simulator

•Composed technical documentation that details the simulator modeling methods and operation

•Provided simulator development support and training for manufacturing technology experts

Process Improvement Engineering Intern, Novozymes Biological, Salem, VA, January 2013 May 2013

•Exercised proper start-up, control, and shutdown procedures for BUCHI mini spray dryer B-290 used to study the scaled up process

•Practiced proper plating procedures for gram positive bacteria spores

•Investigated the effects of feed’s spore concentration and various surfactant additives on the downstream yield of gram positive bacteria spores using the mini spray dryer; submitted an official report proposal to the project supervisor detailing our data, results, as well as suggestion for future works on how to improve bacteria spore yield
