DUTIES
Airway Management: Suctioning nasotracheal and endotracheal using necessary precautions to prevent adverse side effects. Tracheostomy Care: Cleaned stoma with hydrogen peroxide to prevent infection. Replaced neck ties, guaze and inner cannula if soiled and/or occluded. Suctioned tracheostomy if necessary. Hyperinflation Techniques: Initiated hyperinflation therapies to include incentive spirometry, deep breathing techniques or Intermittent Positive Pressure Breathing (IPPB) in accordance to physician orders in consideration of appropriateness of care. Mechanical Ventilation Management: Initiated MV, selecting the equipment and settings to the patient needs. This may also involve such modalities as high frequency ventilation, PEEP, and others. Monitors MV via ABG (Arterial Blood Gas) results, chest auscultation, chest x-rays, bedside pulmonary functions, clinical observation and adjust parameters accordingly. Maintains the patients on MV providing period checks, appropriate trouble shooting and equipment maintenance. Remove patients from MV via appropriate monitoring and techniques following determination of patient’s ability for spontaneous ventilation. Oxygen Therapy: Manually administers care to include oxygen, aerosol therapy, aerosolized medications, percussion, postural drainage, pulse oximetry and visual monitoring of patients on continuous ventilation. Emergency Assistance: Provides CPR during cardio respiratory arrest. This includes cardiac compressions, transportation and analysis of blood gas, manual resuscitation and other related assistance. Electrocardiogram: Set up twelve lead EKG to obtain the tracing of the electrical activity of the heart.
