RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

FIU (Chemistry and Biochemistry Department) Miami, FL Ph.D. DISSERTATION 2010 – 2015

Identified and determined the occurrence and consumption levels of 18 drugs of abuse in a college campus through non-intrusive analysis of raw sewage influents using online-SPE HPLC high resolution mass spectrometry.

Recognized multiple phase I and phase II drugs of abuse metabolic transformation products in raw sewage influents by developing a targeted-screening workflow using the combination of high resolution mass spectrometry, metabolic identification and structural elucidation software packages.

Implemented the use of high resolution mass spectrometry for the characterization of wastewater effluent, surface, and drinking water matrices, which helped identify recalcitrant components in a drinking water treatment plant.

FIU (Southeast Environmental Research Center) Miami, FL GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT 2008 – 2010, 2012 – 2014

Led the analysis of OC/PCBs of soils and waters by GC-ECD implementing U.S. EPA methodologies (EPA 8081B and EPA 8000B) for continuous maintenance of NELAC certifications.

Developed multiple analytical processing workflows for trace analysis of PAHs, pesticides, drugs of abuse, pharmaceutical, and personal care products helping increase sample throughput by 50%.

Drove the analysis and reporting of 200+ batches of PAHs by GC-MS (SIM) and LC-MS/MS for the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, which was used in the Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) conducted by government trustees.

Lead the analysis of pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs) by LC-HRMS.

Provided general maintenance and troubleshooting of LC-MS, GC-MS, GC-FID, GC-ECD instruments.

Miami Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Miami, FL

RESEARCHER 2007 – 2010

Organized and structured over 100 medical records to be used for temporomandibular joint (TMJ) research.

Conducted data analysis on TMJ and orbital blowout fracture procedures to track the progress and outcome of these procedures on patients. These results were extensively used in multiple conferences and articles.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

STEM SUMMER BRIDGE PROGRAM FIU/MDC (2015)

Mentored and assisted a group of college freshmen students in a project identifying the presence of different types organic pollutants, quantifying levels of sucralose, and comparing the number of chemical entities in tap, bottled, and refillable water samples.

GRADUATE TEACHING ASSISTANT FIU (2010 – 2011)

Laboratory instructor for Quantitative Analysis (CHM 3120L Fall, 2011), General Chemistry (CHM 1045L Summer 2011), Survey of Chemistry (CHM1033L, Spring 2011), and Chemistry and Society (CHM1032L Fall 2010).
