Professional Experience

CEO, SpecTran Corporation (Developer and manufacturer of communications grade and specialty Fiber Optics); Sturbridge Massachusetts 1998-2000 Member Board of Directors 1997-2000

• Succeeded the company founder as CEO in April 1998 and as Chairman of Board of Directors in 1999.

• Replaced the Specialty Fiber Division senior management and required the revision of the division’s business practices resulting in a positive PBT for the division.

• Focused the effort to complete a behind schedule/over budget project for producing single mode fiber.

• Negotiated revised financing terms for an existing capital improvement LOC with Fleet National Bank.

• Actions resulted in positive increases in sales, gross margins and operating income.

• Led a strategic assessment of our long term viability in a market dominated by two much larger com- petitors, Lucent and Corning. Effort led to a decision and merger with Lucent Technologies. Corporate VP Engineering, Rockwell International: Seal Beach California 1991-1996

• Chaired technical/financial committee charged with identifying and securing corporate approval of the set of internally funded R&D projects which were necessary in order to grow our businesses, while liv- ing within established financial targets.

• Conducted monthly reviews of technical progress and budget performance for all major internal R&D projects and government contracts.

• Served as a Red Team member for review of Rockwell’s technical concepts and proposals in response to US government Strategic Defense Initiatives (SDI) request for proposals.

• Beginning in mid-1993, also served as Rockwell’s principal business interface with Russian defense

industries involved in joint US/Russian defense technology conversion projects. Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and Network VP, Southern New England Telephone(SNET): New Haven Connecticut 1984 - 1991

• Responsible for communications network planning, technology conversion, and implementation as SNET transitioned from electro mechanical switching and wireline transmission to digital switching and fiber optic transmission. Conversion of the statewide network was accomplished during this period.

• Shortly after joining SNET and for a 2 year period thereafter, was appointed/served as the President of Sonecor Systems, (an unregulated subsidiary of SNET) while concurrently serving as CTO of SNET.

• Within the 2 year period, downsized the organization, restructured the Sonecor business model and operating practices to reverse an on-going multi million dollar annual loss, increased sales volumes and

customer satisfaction and achieved financial turnaround resulting in positive PBT . Division VP and GM, Rockwell International, Electronic Switching Systems Division: Downers Grove Illinois 1981 - 1984

• In 1981, appointed as VP/GM of Rockwell’s Electronic Switching Systems Division with responsibility for completing the integration of Rockwell’s existing electronic switching business with Wescom, a re- cently acquired digital switching business.

• The two organizations were overstaffed, had different corporate cultures, competing product lines, un- finished product developments and had several customer service issues including a small number of incomplete large integrated computer systems for banks in Europe. These factors were resulting in a seriously negative profit position.

• Within two+ years, successfully completed the integration of the two organizations, downsized and moved all development to a single city, stabilized our products and customer base, and achieved a break even profit position.

• From 1978 to 1981, served as VP Engineering for Rockwell’s Electronic Systems Group consisting of 5 product/system divisions involved in communications, navigation, tactical missiles and marine systems.

• From 1968 thru late 1977, held progressively responsible positions in communications engineering, project management, computer systems modeling/analysis, and communication/computer system

sales, serving in both government and commercial product/system divisions.
