Professional Summary

Accomplished and energetic Analytical Chemist with 7 year background in HPLC, GC/MS, GC/FID, FTIR, TGA/IR, FTIR Microscope, UV-vis, NMR, GLP and GMP experience. Project management to support internal departments and external customers. A solid history of achievement in qualitative and quantitative analysis of contaminants in oil and solid samples using analytical instruments and wet chemistry. Motivated leader with strong organizational and prioritization abilities.

Skills and accomplishments

Solid background in analytical chemistry and organic chemistry;

Extensive experience in conducting analytical instruments such as HPLC, GC/MS, GC/FID, FTIR, TGA/IR, FTIR microscope, UV-vis, NMR, and their applications to support customer projects.

Method development of HPLC and GC/MS to separate, quantify, and analyze components of oils, polymers, and solid samples;

Unique ability to interpret FTIR spectra without assistance of library;

Knowledge in a GLP and GMP environment;

Thorough knowledge in purification and separation techniques such as membrane filtration, flash chromatography, HPLC, TLC, distillation, crystallization, centrifugation, soxhlet extraction;

Experienced in organic synthesis, especially skilled in multi-step synthesis and catalytic synthesis;

Extensive experience in wet chemistry (titration, viscosity, Karl Fischer titration for moisture, etc), Schlenk line techniques and dry glove box techniques.

Experience

Support internal departments and external customers by operation, maintenance, and methods development of HPLC and GC/MS to analyze compressor oils, lubricant additives, process chemicals, polymers, field failure returns, and unknown residues;

Manage analytical projects and issue final reports to customers. Project management experience. Include: Example 1, project lead to solve capillary tube clogging issues for customer Thermo Scientific and received “Excellent Customer Service” award (2010); Example 2, primary key member to solve the TXV/rust preventative issues for all major customers including Carrier, Trane, Goodman, Rheem, Lennox, Nordyne; Example 3, quality control of compressor oils from supplier;

Polymer analysis upon compatibility test using FTIR, HPLC, TGA, GCMS;

Independently developed a GC/MS method to accurately quantify the acids and alcohols in ester based oils (POE) (first time in Emerson’s history);

Method development of HPLC for QC samples, unknown contamination samples and trace samples;

Interpretation of GC/MS spectra to identify oil types (POE, mineral oil, alkyl benzene, PAG, PAO, etc), to determine composition of unknown samples, to analyze structure of contaminants in the oil, and to quantify additives in compressor oils (antioxidant, antiwear additives, formers, etc);

Interpretation of FTIR spectra to identify sample contamination, degradation, and oxidation, to quantify oil additives, and to determine composition/functional groups of unknown samples;

Sample preparation for FTIR microscope to analyze trace samples;

Utilizing purification and separation techniques to prepare HPLC, GC/MS and FTIR samples including TXV pins, capillary tubes, motors, rotors, unloaders, fiber glass, filter paper, failed compressor returns, filter driers, and process chemicals, etc.
