PROFILE
I started my professional career at 21 by going through an extensive six year apprenticeship starting in 1983 with the IBEW LU 56. After that I spent a number of years with a local construction management firm in Pennsylvania as a Superintendent, and eventually moving into the role of Project Manager. Early in 1990, I aspired to go into business for myself, establishing the first African American electrical contracting company “Sterling Electric Incorporated” in Erie, PA and partnered in developing National Development Group from 2006 to 2008 prior to relocating to Arizona. Sterling Electric Inc. was voted Distinguished Business of the Year and in 1998 was voted Business of the Year.
My practice and approach are to harness the collective intelligence, spirit and imagination of an organization’s talent and workforce, thus gaining strategic advantage as a collective in today’s highly competitive marketplace. I strongly believe that managerial core values, company’s culture, ethics and fair practices are the pillars for success of any business. I continue to head and initiate team building activities, safety awareness, and leadership classes that promote loyalty to the common cause and the company, cultural homogeneity, employees’ satisfaction and increased productivity.
I believe that the only way to lead is by example. Therefore I deeply honor and practice personal integrity, strength of character, executive thinking, creative problem resolution, efficiency and accountability. I would venture to say that my peers second my credo.
I raised my three children as a single father, working full time. Both of my sons graduated from college with MBA and my daughter enrolled in Law school in 2015. Solely by peer pressure I wrote and published “Raising Athletic Stars. How to Put Character and Integrity Development Back into Play”(available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Borders)
Later I founded “Competing for Life Foundation” nonprofit organization, working with children at-risk, which remains actively involved in the community. I have had the privilege of being a guest motivational speaker across the United States. Recently, during my employment with M+W Group I was chosen to train, inspire and coach all employees across the United States on how to create an Incident & Injury Free (IIF) work environment.
I was also fortunate to be awarded The President’s Award for community Service work in 2011.
My personal interests center on TEAM BUILDING, men’s issues, children’s wellbeing, future and education, sports, horses, male fitness and community service.
