Current Professional Responsibilities

Engage all ARC 3 or greater breast patients for biopsy education and instructions.

Establish knowledge and understanding of role of nurse navigator and services offered to patient.

Assist patients with biopsy procedure scheduling.

Attend biopsy procedures with patients to offer comfort and support.

Call all biopsy patients the day after biopsy to assess biopsy site and patient health status.

Retrieve all biopsy pathology reports within 36 hours. Correlate findings with radiologist.

Notify all patients of positive and/or negative biopsy pathology results.

Contact breast surgeons and schedule appointments for positive breast pathology.

Arrange for all needed radiology films and procedures report to be readied for patient pickup or delivered to surgeon for patient consultation visit.

Educate patient on their diagnosis and treatment options. Explain pathology findings. Educate on Genetic testing. Give out written information about cancer diagnosis and support groups.

Attend breast surgeon appointment with patient when applicable.

Enter all patient information, patient education, patient post procedure calls and pathology results in navigator database.

Conduct and enter 3 month, 6 month and one year follow-up calls on all pathology positive cancer patients.

Attend and staff health fairs to provide breast care education to the public.

Act as Baylor Imaging Center’s resource for breast education and assist in providing resources for financial assistance for indigent patients.
