In this position at both Camp Parks, CA and Fort Hunter Liggett, CA, my primary responsibility was to support the networks. This included architecting and designing of multiple networks depending on the requirement for the new construction and their purpose, documenting, configuring, installation of the network equipment, and upgrading the operating systems of this equipment. Monitoring daily the health of the network with Cisco Works Network Compliance Manager as well as Ipswitch Whats Up Gold and Solarwinds Orion. Additional duties included configuring, installing, and support of Cisco routers to include the 3800, 2600, and 3700 families, Cisco Catalyst switches to include from 2900xl, 3500xl, 3560, 3560G, 3750 family, 6500 series Catalysts, Cisco Pix Firewalls, Cisco ASA family for IPS, VPN, and Fire Wall, Juniper Firewalls, Cisco IDS/IPS appliances, Redline point to point communications, and Air Fortress AF7500 Security Gateways to protect the networks. Re-establishing working relationships with upstream organizations to successfully complete mission at hand as well as working as a team member in resolving network issues. Helped setup our virtualization environment using VMWare and Vsphere and helped train the system administrator on this in how to setup and configure. This was a temporary short assignment to support the Chrims (California Horse Racing Information Management Systems) network providing daily technical support due to the previous engineer just up and leaving. Responsibilities included: documenting, installation, configuration, design and support of network equipment and host servers utilizing a full mesh BGP primary network and planning, recommending, configuring, installing new backup solution moving from a manual dial-up to a fully automatic secondary network. Setting-up backup Nortel AN, ARN, ASN routers and deploying those until the network could be converted to the new solution so complete automatic failover can be implemented. Support of Cisco PIX firewalls for their security and protection of the Chrims network.
